I've seen some of the bigger stars not play matinees at times. Is this true of Hugh and Sutton based on anyone's experience?

When have you seen bigger stars routinely out for matinees without an alternate or advanced notice?

Telecharge has it listed on "The Music Man" page when Hugh will be out.
August 15–21, 2022
September 5–11, 2022
October 10–16, 2022
No tickets are being sold for those weeks. Just like when Hugh was on vacation during "The Boy From Oz, the show went dark. More than likely the same will happen with these weeks, too. Time will tell. If I'm wrong, I'll post for all to see.

Oh, I haven't, they're usually posted I suppose. I just was going to purchase a matinee in March and had heard sometimes they don't go on. idk. Thank you everyone for responding!

As a longtime fan of Hugh Jackman's Broadway career, I can tell you that he's never missed a performance for any of the Broadway musicals and plays he's been involved with.

If I was a betting man, they’re looking for who will eventually be Hugh’s replacement and use those weeks as sort of a “soft run” for them.

That's entirely possible. But in Jackman's other shows, they've usually opted to just go dark on his scheduled absences. Who knows what will happen. We'll see.

It'd be nice if they give Max Clayton a run in at least one of those weeks, with lowered prices.
BTW, it's slightly off-topic here, but do the child actors have any restriction on how long they can be in the show? Will they have to recast those roles at some point?

Two shows spring to mind: When Karen Mason replaced Glenn Close during her vacation from (the first) Sunset Blvd, the box office fell drastically, and the production's efforts to hide the figures -- to suggest the show is the star -- enraged Close. It became a bit of a thing.
Hello, Dolly! was shrewdly set up with a Broadway star as a replacement -- already playing of the the eight shows -- and if the numbers were lower, the audiences were happy and plentiful and loved Donna Murphy. I would think it's a terrific model for the Jackman absences, still months away. If they brought in, say, Norm Lewis or another theater name, ticket sales would fall but seats would be sold. Finding the Donna Murphy to play Hill may be in the works. But then, in post-pandemic Broadway, all bets are off.

The numbers were lower. The audiences were happy.. but they were not plentiful. There would be sections of empty seats. It was a nice set up.. and I loved that they did it. but not sure it ultimately was financially beneficial. But hey.. I think it would be great if they would do something like that.
As for the interest in seeing Max Clayton.. he is adorable and I am sure very talented.. but just curious as to where this interest comes from? He has been in ensembles and I know all about his partner and life on social media... but why the interest? Just curious.

After the reviews, I don't think there's any chance this show runs after Hugh and Sutton leave. It's not a good show with them in it, and without them it will just become more glaringly apparent. I would bet the show is dark for those weeks.

I think it’s just as you say. It’s his social media presence combined with the fact that he is adorable and he is talented and he has charisma for days. He’s perfect for the role. I’d love to see him go on.

Let's get real. It's nice that they cast Max Clayton. I really hope this leads to bigger things. Because unless Hugh gets hurt mid-show, he's never going to go on.

I honestly want to see Seth MacFarlane as a replacement for Hill - it’s not gonna happen with his TV production schedule, but knowing that many people my age (27) first heard “Shipoopi” thanks to early “Family Guy”, I would KILL to see that.

But he’s very much a respectable singer in his own right and also definitely has a little more of a sleaze factor that would give some life to this Hill

I love Norm. Saw him do MM in DC. Can't see him perform that choreography, though his voice is great.

After seeing John Stamos in Birdie, I would hope that would not be the case. He was so bad, especially in the dancing department, that I actually felt sorry for him during the Put on a Happy Face number.
