Glad we were able to straighten that out

Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat MOVIE cast recording?

I am looking for an album recording of the movie version from 2000. There is apparently a very rare CD but I don't know if it would be just as good as extracting audio from the DVD that I have. Does anyone have the soundtrack CD and is it any better than straight audio from the DVD? The DVD audio has the cheering children and other little sounds that interfere with the music. The mixing isn't great either.  That's all, thanks!

Did Glenn Casale or Tuachan fix the horrible staging of the finale? Quasimodo swinging, the molten lead, the narration and Frollo's death were all unforgivable.

Also if I was directing I'd cut Thai Mol Piyas. Totally weighs down the show and adds nothing.

Why did they keep the stupid narration in the finale? Just... why... IT'S A SCORE ALBUM!!!

No words...

Anyone else think Hellfire sounds a bit iffy? The tempo, Patrick Page's singing, the orchestration (not sure why they gave the string part over to woodwinds). I can't dig it.

I'm not sure why God Help the Outcasts now adds the entire choir singing "TO BLESS MEEEE." It's too loud for this type of song. I thought it was perfect in the original show.

On a positive note Michael Arden sounds better here singing the songs more straight than he did in

Esmeralda dying and Quasimodo choosing to live life in the face of adversity was a sad but touching ending. Quasimodo choosing to commit suicide by burying himself alive and spooning with a corpse is just vile

I cannot emphasize how much i hate the changes paper mill made from la jolla. They took all the bawdy fun out of rest and recreation and added that new passage in the middle about ptsd which doesn't fit the spirit of the song at all. They removed frollo's inner monologue from topsy turvy, which i thought was a stroke of genius.

But most offensive was the decision to reinstate hugo's horrible necrophilliac epilogue. The ending was already too dark after removing der glockner's hopef

The NY review times hit the nail on the head, the staging of the finale is atrocious and should have been the first thing they made sure to get right. Hopefully the powers that be will listen to the mountain of reviews criticizing these stupid choices and fix it for Broadway.

What really irks me is that the crappy direction is from nepotism. Stephen Schwartz put the needs of his son's unimpressive career before the needs of the show.

I am curious to hear the audio of the final

I said it already but they need to move or get rid of Thai Mol Piyas. It really interrupts the flow of the musical by displacing Heaven's/Light Hellfire, which SO OBVIOUSLY should be the next song following Esmeralda's interaction with Quasimodo and Frollo. Having Esmeralda kiss Phoebus before we even get to heaven's light prevents us from really sharing in Quasimodo's feelings hope and heartbreak since the outcome of the love traingle has already been given away.

And as everyone e

I agree Sctrojan, all those little facial expressions were magnificent. I remember those nuances in Esmeralda's final moment of defiance. I also liked how she leaned in towards Frollo as if she were about to kiss him and then spit in his face. Not to mention the tears in Frollo's eyes as he sentenced her to death. What an amazing cast.

Here's my unsolicited focus group feedback.

LOVED:

The book by Peter Parnell is great. The characters are fleshed out so much better than the Disney movie and the Berlin Version. It's thrilling to watch these cartoon personalities come to life as real humans through masterful writing and acting. Frollo's abusive relationship with Quasimodo is just stunning to watch, especially in the opening scene which blends seamlessly into him singing "the world is cruel, the

My favorite parts from Der Gloeckner were the finale's reprise of Wie Aus Stein (Made of Stone) and the moment when Quasimodo kills Frollo and tells him "you are a very good teacher!"

Now both parts are drowned out by narrators talking over it.

Feels like going to an opera and having some dick sit next to you and talk through the whole thing.

All these accusations of ripping off Les Miz are pissing me off.

Wah! This Victor Hugo story reminds me of another Victor Hugo story!

Idiots.

IMO those reviewers are complaining for all the wrong reasons. Accusing a Disney musical of being too sweet? Especially considering that this is the darkest most sexual Disney musical of all time.

LOL at the line about the "towering orchestra." 13 players isn't even enough for a chamber orchestra. These reviews have no credibility in my book.

I'm seeing it next week. I'm sure its gonna be great but it's clearly got problems evident in the audio and other people's reports.

Berlin had a 50 piece orchestra. La Jolla has a 13 piece orchestra. That alone makes Berlin the winner in my book.

But let's examine the other shortcomings:

This show relies so heavily on the chorus it's ridiculous. They fill in for Clopin. They fill in for the gargoyles. For pete's sake they even fill in for the character's actions with that blasted narration. They're a freaking placeholder for all the show's unsolved problems. Maybe the German gargoyles were goofy-looking but
