I think there might be a bit of a culture/country thing here too (I'm in the UK) - because I've never heard of not expecting a concert to start on the time stated on the ticket regardless as to whether or not there is an opening act. Okay, yes 5 or so minutes is fine but I go to loads of concerts and if the act isn't on stage by about 15-20 minutes after it's stated on the ticket the slow handclapping starts. I'll admit that I've been an Idina Menzel fan for a good 12 years now and have seen her perform when she has come over to the UK with her solo concerts - including on this latest tour. I thought Idina and Michael both sounded fine, it was just that the performance looked really under rehearsed which I imagine it was. I can't think of a worse idea performance wise than when you know you've got a tiny timescale to get over to the UK, do a couple of shows and get back to the US than to do a duet.
