"His being "Daniel Radcliffe" is the only reason he ever got this role." He had to audition for Kenneth Branagh who was originally going to star in and direct the play, then again for Peter Shaffer and his agent in order to get their blessing and finally Thea Sharrock after she took over. It was Kenneth Branagh who got Daniel Radcliffe involved with Equus not that long after he invited him to guest star in 'The Play Wot I Wrote'.

"I saw this in an auditorium where a high percentage of the audience were teenagers (of school-going age) and the response, on the whole, was very mature." Especially when you compare it with something like In Celebration with Orlando Bloom whose audience was of a similar demographic. :)
