I second "Bump it with a trumpet" ... I am so obsessed with this line, when a coworker mentioned that her 14 yr old son played trumpet, I mentioned to her about that line from Gypsy... she looked sort of taken aback. Later I showed her the clip from the film version with Faith Dane as Mazeppa. She still thinks I'm nuts...

I've worked on the board of an ASO (AIDS Service Organization) in Maine that has benefited from significant grants from BC/EFA, especially for an event that brings joy and laughter and dance to very many whom AIDS/HIV has impacted. Totally agree with shesamarshmallow. If you like Gypsy, you'll like Bells Are Ringing. That said, and I mean this respectfully DCR, I know Sweeney is not everyone's taste, but it's not a bad thing to explore outside of an area of one's predilection. My example of this as it pertains to me is Rent. I never would have thought this would have affected me so. But it did. That said, there's a limit to experimentation. Well, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf is pretty modern. May not be set in the 70s, but the themes are all there. Company, in my mind is deserving of an award, because of its innovative book structure (some still hate it!)... but it sure shook things up.

Well, DCR, I'm an old-fashioned "gal". I'd recommend "Wonderful Town" - (Bernstein/Comden&Green). Some great tunes there... Donna Murphy's recent revival performance is wonderful, but there's nothing like Rosalind Russell.... and yes, she's no Ethel Merman, but Ruth's songs were all conceived around her vocal limitations. Well an off-line friend just suggested "Easy to Love" from Anything Goes... but that is unfortunately at the wrong end of the emotional spectrum I'm currently overwhelmed by. It's plainly clear... he would not be so easy to love... Ugh. Why can't I fall for available guys.

I searched the board, but didn't find this particular flavor of love as a thread of its own... so, what are your favorite songs about unrequited love, or further, a love that was not meant to be - I need to compile a playlist to aurally drown my sorrows in.
