PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Previews

Sometimes you just need to get out of the house.

Arriving from London by way of Boston, the first new show of the 2026-27 Broadway season, Paranormal Activity, begins previews tomorrow night (August 14). Inspired by the cherished film series of the same name, the horror play — written by Levi Holloway and directed by Felix Barrett — has a small, four-person onstage cast consisting of Travis A. Knight, Cher Álvarez, Shannon Cochran, and Eva Kaminsky. Opening night is August 25 at the August Wilson Theatre, for a limited run through January 3.

“James and Lou move from Chicago to London for a fresh start. But as the young couple settles into their new home, Lou is certain that something isn’t right, and before long they will both have to grapple with the same truth: places aren’t haunted, people are.”

I’ve got tickets with friends for the 9pm Halloween show, but hoping to get lotto/rush for the first preview tomorrow. This has been at the top of my list since they did it in Leeds. Any chance to see horror on stage, I’m there.

Anyone know why Patrick Heusinger didn't continue with the show? He was great in the role (I'm sure the new actor is as well, was just curious)

He's in performances as the lead in "Begin Again" at the Old Globe. Then probably off to do TV shows or movies until Begin Again comes to NYC. He was the first choice for Broadway. - instead, Broadway gets the Assistant Director of the show turned lead..

First preview is sold out. I lost the lotto and didn’t get TodayTix rush, and then they only sold 2 tickets to the in-person rush line. Cancellation it is! 🤞

For anyone with the time / resources to plan ahead, the 30% offer code FIRSTHAUNTING still works for most preview performances - Mid-Mezz are a quite reasonable $59 and $83 with fees and I think would be a fine view for the production. Have fun everyone going tonight!

As a lifelong horror fan who was exactly the right age and demographic to be waiting in line at midnight for the original Paranormal Activity movie, I’m so happy I saw this with a sold out audience primed to enjoy themselves. I thought this was a total blast, beginning to end.

The script is essentially a loose frame on which to hang a series of spooky set pieces, and the dialogue tips into clunky territory more than a couple times, but as an attempt to bring the feeling of the movie series at its most effective to the stage, it more than nails it. I was stressed out, y’all. This is one of the only times I’ve felt anything close to watching a really tense, scary horror movie live. The closest I can equate it to is Lucas Hnath’s The Thin Place, but stretched to its breaking point and with a higher budget.

I’m biased because I’m exactly the audience for this, but it also had a high bar to clear for me as a result. Could I nitpick about the abruptness of the final scene or the lengthy blackout transitions? Sure. But I had a grin on my face any time I wasn’t cupping my hands over my mouth, and I can’t really ask for more than that. This is going to be absolutely perfect to return to on Halloween night.

This effect is definitely still there and the audience went wild for it. Not sure what the reveal is that you’re referencing though.

Did they fix the sightlines? I saw it in Boston and the first 6 or so rows couldn't see the second level and therefore a lot of the effects. It was a 1/2 empty house, so I moved at intermission and could see better.

The toggle is not working - at least for me. The content appears as regular text for all to see

It looks like a VERY good portion of the house is partial view.

I sat Center Orchestra Row C last night and I definitely wouldn’t sit any closer than that, and for sure not off to the sides.

For center viewing, you’d want to be anywhere from Orchestra Row C to Row S, and Mezzanine Row A to Row L. For extreme side viewing, I wouldn’t go any closer than Orchestra Row L. But the ATG ticketing website at least does a good job of showing at least where the proscenium is, so you can sort of judge before buying.

Does this director have no experience outside of immersive experience ? How hard is it to create a set, with the designer, that serves the whole audience and not the center rich ? Did M. Arden direct this show? -- partial view again...

For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t sit to the extreme side, extreme front, or under the mezz overhang in the orchestra by choice for any production. I’ve rarely seen a show without partial view seats.

I feel like the Wilson is a pretty solid venue for this because there aren't any extreme sides? It's a flat 2 story set so it should serve most of the audience. Not sure how else you'd design this unless they made the house more of a U shape so everyone could see parts of it?
