Yeah, eliminating a sexist and misogynistic song lyric is absolutely pearl clutching.....🙄Ok, you clearly think my comment was insensitive. But seriously, can we please just grapple with texts as snapshots of the time in which they were created and not try to scrub out all of the aspects that haven't aged well just to sooth the sensibilities of a modern day audience? Thank you, because I saw a great production 4 years ago, and all they mentioned (although it was in small print on a credits page) that there was additional lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. I didn't really notice anything that anyone should/could clutch pearls at.Trust me, in this day and age there will be someone who finds some reason to clutch their pearls.

Why is NPH insufferable? Is that a common feeling around here? Not trying to pick a fight, I'm fairly indifferent to him. Just curious.Well obviously it's going to be subjective, but he just grates on me. He does essentially the same schtick in every appearance he makes, whether it be as an actor, awards host, or whatever. I think his stint as the Oscars host most showcased what I don't like about him -- a "wink wink" smugness and a sense that he thinks he's adorable.

I sort of fell in love with this show via the 1994 cast recording, which I think is sensational. (I've never seen it staged, only seen the movie). Neil Patrick Harris is insufferable to me, so he would be a big deterrent if I were to have the chance to see this. Mostly, all this talk about the Yankees is making me feel sad that baseball season is quickly winding to a close for another year (but super excited about the Yankees/Red Sox face off).

The Donna Murphy recording is the best so far. I agree. The Donna Murphy revival is tough to beat, though I do wish that production had included an overture and that the recording included the Small House of Uncle Thomas ballet.

I'm probably least excited about Guys and Dolls, mostly because it's not one of my favorite scores to begin with. And I've not been very excited by what I've heard so far. It really suffers from having that old-fashioned sound when you have something like the '92 revival recording that's sooooo good and already feels pretty complete as it is. Thanks for that info about the orchestrations. That's one thing that is very noticeable about these recordings -- they don't have as much punch as more modern updates, largely because of the orchestrations. On something like Carousel it's not as noticeable, but based on the tracks I've listened to so far I'm afraid it will get more in the way of me really liking a score as jazzy and brassy as Guys and Dolls. Plus Faith Prince ruined me forever on anyone else singing Adelaide's Lament.

So I didn't know who Timothy Hughes was and assumed he was a critic. Now that I know he's an actor, yeah, this feels like one of those situations where I would teach my kids that every thought they have doesn't necessarily need to be posted on social media. Makes him sound like a real douche.

Death of a Salesman hitting over $2 million/week with only 7 performances is truly insane. I'm assuming they'll announce recoupment before closing.I'm seeing this on Saturday. this is 100% looking to transfer, this is absolutle a try-out hence the supporting cast being loaded with Broadway "names"There's no scenario where I can see this being successful on Broadway, even if they brought in bigger names than Mullaly and Offerman -- and I'm not throwing shade on them, I like them both.

Will this production have any further life after August 9? I saw this over the weekend and would say probably not. It becomes apparent very early on (even during the opening number) that this show is never going to rise above mildly pleasant.
