Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 4/19/26 Apr 21 2026, 04:53:39 PM
Are those numbers for "Wicked" accurate? Don't know that I can remember seeing its average ticket price below $100.

Drama League Awards 2026 Apr 20 2026, 05:37:50 PM
"Considering there were over 200 productions that could be nominated this statement is categorically false."
Sighhhhh........I wasn't making a statement of fact, and I'm aware that not literally every piece of theater was nominated. My point was more in the spirit of my comment. But I feel adequately chastised now, so thank you for that public service.

Drama League Awards 2026 Apr 20 2026, 04:53:12 PM
This is the "everyone gets a trophy" theater awards group. It's like if you opened this year you get nominated. Not sure what point there is to having this many nominees in every category.

THE LOST BOYS Previews Apr 14 2026, 09:50:34 AM
I’d never heard of the movie (my apologies to the legendary Joel Schumacher)
This comment almost made me spit out my coffee. Joel Schumacher is among my five least favorite movie directors of all time. But to each his own. Just feeling a little snarky this morning, but mean no harm. Please continue.....

DOG DAY AFTERNOON Reviews Mar 31 2026, 10:17:16 AM
Oof, these reviews killed any interest I had in this show, and I didn't have much to begin with. They confirm what I already suspected -- there's no "why" to this show. Why this film, and why now?

CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Previews Mar 19 2026, 04:46:39 PM
This is not meant to be snarky in any way but...you have the world at your fingertips. A few quick searches and Wikipedia will get you up to speed along with quizking101's suggestion.
If I am seeing a show with a subject matter or theme/style that I don't know enough about, I do some research before seeing it. I know about ball culture but have been looking things up as people here have been posting names of those associated with it and information about it. (And the bi

CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Previews Mar 19 2026, 03:18:46 PM
Is this show accessible to people (like me) who have no idea what queer ballroom subculture is? Seems like a niche show that may struggle to find an audience once those who already know what it is have seen it (name recognition of the ALW musical aside).

DOG DAY AFTERNOON Previews Mar 11 2026, 02:05:57 PM
The movie is nearly perfect and Al Pacino gives one of the best performances not just of his but of anyone's career. The film is also very kinetic and cinematic. Not saying there's not a way to make this work on stage, but I have trouble envisioning any scenario where this isn't a pale imitation of something that's already iconic as is.Not that it much matters, because there's no way I'll have a chance to see it!

David Henry Hwang is revising FLOWER DRUM SONG again for East West Players Feb 19 2026, 10:46:49 AM
I didn't see the revised version. I've only listened to the cast recording. Based on that, I tend to agree with those who think the revisal didn't completely work story-wise. But I will say that the cast recording is glorious. I felt like I was hearing that score for the first time, and the orchestrations in particular were sensational. I'd love a complete recording of Flower Drum Song similar to what they've done recently with Oklahoma!, Carousel, and My Fair Lady.

All Best Musical Winners Ranked by Number of Performances Feb 12 2026, 01:39:04 PM
How interesting. If you had asked me to guess, I would have been positive that a show like Moulin Rouge wouldn't have yet surpassed treasured classics like South Pacific, The Sound of Music, and The King and I. Has the business model changed to allow shows longer runs (seems counterintuitive to the fact that everything is more expensive to run these days), or am I just overestimating the popularity of those shows back in the day?

Flower Drum Song Ballet Jan 28 2026, 03:56:47 PM
Interesting. I really like the ballet in the movie, even if it does give a disproportionate amount of time to a relatively minor character. I also really like the Sunday number in the movie too. It's a musical I've always had a soft spot for even though it feels like a lesser work than some of R&H's best.

Flower Drum Song Ballet Jan 28 2026, 02:06:00 PM
The 1961 movie adaptation of Flower Drum Song includes a lengthy ballet sequence. Does anyone know if the original Broadway musical contained a ballet, and if so, is there any recording of FDS that includes it? I feel like this is a show that needs a complete recording similar to the treatments they've done recently to Oklahoma!, Carousel, and My Fair Lady.

She has starred in New York’s ‘worst show’ for 40 years. Why? Jan 20 2026, 11:09:02 AM
That one quote pulled out of context sounds snarky, but the article in full seems very complimentary to the actress.

Slam Frank's Blatantly Anti-Semitic IG Post Dec 17 2025, 09:54:03 AM
This is why marketing yourself off of being snarky and controversial is always a danger. This is clearly meant to be mocking the way people who are pro-Palestine talk about the October 7th attacks and it's like....what would make you think anybody who cares about Israel-Palestine wants to be marketed to in this way? What would make one think Israel-Palestine is a smart basis for a marketing post at all? Leaving aside the utter insensitivity of it, in trying to be contro

OEDIPUS Reviews Nov 14 2025, 09:03:26 AM
This clip from the NYT (might be behind a pay wall) of Mark Strong and Lesley Manville performing a scene from Oedipus in the office of T Magazine is absolutely riveting. https://www.nytimes.com/video/t-magazine/100000010519946/live-from-the-10th-floor-a-scene-from-oedipus.html If I could I would drop money to see this in a heartbeat.

I refer you to YT and duets of I Dreamed a Dream, Poker Face, Somewhere and Next to Me when they were mother and daughter on Glee.
Thanks! Guess I'm a little late to the program on this one LOL.

I'd never really seen Lea Michele before watching this YouTube clip. Wow, she really reminds me a lot of Idina Menzel.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/9/25 Nov 11 2025, 02:44:51 PM
Are these updated, or are they still last week's? The link to the grosses page says 11/9 but the grosses page itself still says 11/2.
EDIT: Never mind. Since I posted this comment the date has been corrected.

Ken Davenport Says JOY is Heading to Broadway Oct 2 2025, 05:50:20 PM
Is this a stage adaptation of the movie, or is this an original musical based on the same story? Because the movie was terrible. And even if this treatment is original, I have my doubts that this woman's story is compelling enough to succeed in any format. I mean, mops are great and all, but.....
This feels like a show literally no one was asking for.
