Did Moulin Rouge have someone special come into the cast for its last days or is it just benefiting from people wanting to see it before it closes?

New Complete Recording of Guys and Dolls

Aug 24, 2026 — 12:02:01 PM

Thanks for that info about the orchestrations. That's one thing that is very noticeable about these recordings -- they don't have as much punch as more modern updates, largely because of the orchestrations. On something like Carousel it's not as noticeable, but based on the tracks I've listened to so far I'm afraid it will get more in the way of me really liking a score as jazzy and brassy as Guys and Dolls. Plus Faith Prince ruined me forever on anyone else singing Adelaide's Lament.

New Complete Recording of Guys and Dolls

Aug 24, 2026 — 10:37:53 AM

Thoughts on the upcoming complete recording of Guys and Dolls from the same people that brought us complete versions of Oklahoma!, Carousel, and My Fair Lady? I've overall been really enjoying these recordings -- I'm a sucker for a complete anything. I was a little disappointed that Guys and Dolls was picked for the next release, since for me there's no need to look beyond the 1992 revival recording as the definitive version (plus that production was my very first Broadway show) and it alread...

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

Jul 30, 2026 — 2:18:06 PM

So I didn't know who Timothy Hughes was and assumed he was a critic. Now that I know he's an actor, yeah, this feels like one of those situations where I would teach my kids that every thought they have doesn't necessarily need to be posted on social media. Makes him sound like a real douche.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/19/26

Jul 21, 2026 — 1:50:19 PM

Ouch for Every Brilliant ThingIndeed. Why on earth didn't they just close this after Hargitay left if they couldn't find a bigger draw than Tracee Ellis Ross? (Though to be fair, I myself was surprised at how big a draw Mariska Hargitay was, so maybe they held out hope for a similar surprise?)

The State of Broadway

Jul 15, 2026 — 3:14:56 PM

I don't know much about the business of Broadway. I'm a huge film buff, and the film industry is going through its own version of what's happening in the theater world. I think the answer is both complicated and simple. Complicated in that we've gone through a perfect storm of cultural changes that we're still in the middle of, and while I think we will eventually correct into a new normal, we're not there yet. Covid, culture wars, streaming, and accessibility of vast amounts of cheap enterta...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/13/26

Jul 14, 2026 — 1:15:06 PM

Death of a Salesman hitting over $2 million/week with only 7 performances is truly insane. I'm assuming they'll announce recoupment before closing.I'm seeing this on Saturday. I planned a special trip to NYC just to see it. Needless to say I'm very excited. Anyone know what the air conditioning in the Winter Garden is like? Should I be prepared for long sleeves?

Iceboy! The Musical

Jul 10, 2026 — 11:34:49 AM

this is 100% looking to transfer, this is absolutle a try-out hence the supporting cast being loaded with Broadway "names"There's no scenario where I can see this being successful on Broadway, even if they brought in bigger names than Mullaly and Offerman -- and I'm not throwing shade on them, I like them both.

Iceboy! The Musical

Will this production have any further life after August 9? I saw this over the weekend and would say probably not. It becomes apparent very early on (even during the opening number) that this show is never going to rise above mildly pleasant. Nick Offerman is underutilized as the narrator/Eugene O'Neill, but he got the most laughs of the evening. Megan Mullaly is working her butt off, but somehow never dominated the show the way her character's diva persona is supposed to, or at least is supp...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/29/26

Jul 1, 2026 — 2:53:11 PM

I've seen some of Matteo Lane's comedy bits. He himself makes a joke of how obviously gay he is. I can't picture him working as Billy Flynn at all, unless they somehow build the joke into the show. Seems like a terrible casting decision.

Is it safe to say now that Wicked has permanently softened? Not that long ago it seemed like one of those shows that would literally run forever.

Rank the 2026 Tony Performances

Jun 8, 2026 — 2:40:12 PM

....so you haven't been paying attention to anything since 2022 when this show started making a name for itself? No, I have not been paying attention to this show since 2022. I have had other things to do since 2022. Hence my question....

That Titanique performance was awful. I don't get it. Was the actress making fun of Celine Dion? Her voice and mannerisms made me physically uncomfortable. The Cats performance was energetic, but I don't think I'd want to watch two hours of that. To be fair, I don't want to watch two hours of the original Cats either.Schmigadoon was fine but it didn't make me want to see the show.I grew up with the movie version of the Lost Boys and just can't take it seriously.

Les Miserables 40th Anniversary Cast Recording

May 29, 2026 — 10:09:08 AM

Have been giving this a listen this morning. Up through "Master of the House" and holy over-emoting Batman! I mean I know subtlety isn't the order of the day with "Les Miz" but my goodness I want to tell everyone to dial it down a notch. Plus the orchestrations sound so thin. Don't think this would ever replace any of my go-to recordings.

Les Miserables 40th Anniversary Cast Recording

I have to chuckle at the shamlessnes of it: "the first complete album of... the contemporary production." Never stop milking it, Cameron. The Complete Symphonic Recording remains my favorite. I laughed at that too. Sounds like he's justifying it by saying it's the first complete recording that captures the musical "as it is now staged all over the world." I haven't seen a production of Les Miz since the original Broadway tour. Has it changed that much? The track list looks almost identical to...

Caps in theaters

May 27, 2026 — 11:47:19 AM

This is the most ridiculous conversation, and yet I can't look away. You know we live in a world of privilege when something like people wearing baseball caps can become such a fixation for some people. Like, put your energy into something more productive.

Caps in theaters

May 26, 2026 — 9:50:53 AM

This entire conversation sort of boggles my mind. I had no idea people had such strong attitudes about baseball caps. I wear baseball caps almost all the time. I don't have a medical condition, but I am bald, and a hat protects my scalp from sun, and it also helps keep me warm as I tend to run colder anyway and not having hair doesn't help. Also, I just like the way it looks on me. I can't conceive of a situation where a baseball cap would be obstructing someone's view to anything, unless som...
