heading to NYC for a week and already seeing the following
Evita
Newsies
Once
The Best Man

I have an open slot for one more show - was thinking either The Lyons, Peter & The Starcatcher or End Of The Rainbow

Thoughts?

I can’t attest to The Lyons, Peter, or End of the Rainbow, but Other Desert Cities was incredible, and Judith Light gives a breathtaking performance in it. Just as thought.

Venus in Fur, if you want a real rollercoaster ride

OTHER DESERT CITIES got a rave review from the New York Times critic Ben Brantley. I never read a more gushing rave. But it closes soon, by the end of March.

Edit: I was mistaken about this play closing in March. It has an open run and is continuing, according to today's NYTimes.

Many good plays in town. Venus in Fur is my favorite.

I've not yet seen any of the other plays you're interested in, but I have to put in my highest recommendation for Peter and the Starcatcher. Truly a one-of-a-kind production, funny and heartfelt, and you won't want to miss Christian Borle's performance. Updated On: 3/6/12 at 02:53 PM

Don't miss End Of The Rainbow. Google It and see the reviews from the Guthrie where its on its final week before Broadway

Ghost the Musical should be at the top of the list! It should definitely be a priority before Evita..Also, the Jesus Christ Superstar revival should also be worth considering..

Thanks for the recommendations. I had the chance to see Ghost In London over the Summer and really enjoyed it

Caught Jesus Christ in La Jolla as well and while they've recast a few parts, don't think I need to see that again.

I'm now trying to find out how to squeeze in Venus In Fur - a Saturday matinee with a 90min running time could make this work

I know I am in the minority but my friend and I were bored silly at Venus in Fur.
We couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about.

Any of the other choices seem like good ones:
Peter and the Starcacther (hearing great things)
End of the Rainbow (hearing great things)
War Horse (hearing great things)

But in my opinion stay away from the Emperors New Fur... Venus in Fur.

Just saw Other Desert Cities.
Highly recommended for great ensemble acting that I haven't seen on Broadway in a long time.
Good play too.
