YESSS. I've been waiting forever for this.
Janine LaManna as Rosie, please!
#4re: Birdie Revival in Near Future?
Posted: 11/28/05 at 4:22pmHow about Natascia Diaz? She's a much more exciting performer than LaManna.

Posted: 11/28/05 at 4:23pmprobably the reason why she got fired between Chicago and Boston...

Interesting to see the Hip Hop Movie version is still in the works, and back on track.
I can see Diaz as Rosie also. But LaManna in my opinion has it all for the part. The voice, the moves, the look, the right age. She's pefect.

Posted: 11/28/05 at 4:24pmDiaz's firing had NOTHING to do with her talent.

Posted: 11/28/05 at 4:25pmI think LaManna is too cold of a stage presence for Rose. She's a servicable performer, but lacks the warmth necessary for a good Rose to work. Rose needs to be a little bitchy, but knowing LaManna, she'll play rose tough as nails. Diaz is a stronger dancer too.

Well LaManna has danced the CHICAGO ensemble, and the role of Velma Kelly. So she's hardly a weak dancer.. (Not that you said she was..)
Anyway.. as I've said before. In this revival, THEY MUST add these songs.
Bye Bye Birdie Medly (Ursula and girls)
Lets Settle Down (Rosie)
What Did I Ever See In Her? (Albert)
A Mother Dosen't Matter Anymore (Mae)
A Giant Step (Albert)
Add those songs, do some book revisions. And it would be perfect.

I don't know whether you are talking about a Broadway or a movie mounting but just last spring plans were announced for a BYE BYE BIRDIE National Tour.
The tour was supposed to begin in the 2005-2006 Touring Season and many dates had already been announced. The tour plans were cancelled and nothing has been mentioned of it since.

And another thing on LaManna..
She does consider herself a singer first (FANTASTIC singer.) But she has taken on Chita Rivera dance roles before..
Anita in WSS
Covered for Chita in SPIDER WOMAN
Velma in CHICAGO
So I don't think she would have a problem at all with Rosie.

Why not Sarah Ramirez? The show would only do 4 performances a week, right?
#18re: Birdie Revival in Near Future?
Posted: 11/28/05 at 6:54pmJessica Grove or Megan Hilty for Kim.
#19re: Birdie Revival in Near Future?
Posted: 11/28/05 at 7:56pmI know the exact facts..they were looking at Mandy Moore for Kim , Megan Mullally For Rosie and they wanted to bring Kudisch back for Birdie or get Joey Lawrence. They even went as far as sending MADONNA a huge package for Rosie.. her people seemed to be interested but, the project was dropped when certain factors did not work out.

Mandy Moore as Kim is perfect.
Kudisch is way too old for Birdie these days.
A lot of that just sounds like pooh. sorry.
I do believe we will see a revival in a couple of years.

I still can't see Mullally as Rosie, for the life of me.
Cheyenne as Birdie is a perfect fit. Matt Bogart is also a fabulous choice.
Rob Barlett sounds great for Mr. MacAfee. BUT. After seeing Wayne Knight in SWEET CHARITY. I am convinced he would make a great Mr. MacAfee.
