It's official - DeGarmo and Moore to star in tour of BKLYN the musical

Any thoughts on this? I've never seen Melba Moore in anything, so I can't comment there, but I personally don't know if Diana would work in the role.

The article says that this is Diana's first national tour, but wasn't she in the WSS tour?

No, WSS was a regional production in San Jose.

wow...they actually got a celeb to headline the tour. Well..she will sell more tix that a complete unknown...still..the show must have the worst book in the history of musical theatre. Even Cats seems like a masterpiece next to Brooklyn.

The singing will not be a problem. She sang as a pure soprano as "Maria" in West Side Story and the songs seem to be right up her alley. Vocally she is extremely versatile.

Diana seems pretty serious about doing musical theatre. She's pretty much put her second album on hold for not only West Side Story but now Brooklyn and, most likely, Hairspray. She was a surprisingly good Maria and won over even those in the WSS cast who initally had doubts. Brooklyn seems like one of those musicals people either love or hate, very little in between.

One other thing about WSS is that she more than held her own against JoAnn Hunter who was an incredible Anita. It could have ended up as bad stunt casting to sell tickets but ended up being a success all around. I think it might be underestimating Diana to just assume she's only a former American Idol contestant. More and more I'm thinking she's got genuine talent and the casting people in NYC seem to think so too.

I really want to see this show - mostly because I want to see if its that bad. I really hope it comes close to here.
