The only thing that seemed SEMI snobbish, was the part about Bea. But I think she meant it in a jokingly way.

And I think she has some good points about how Broadway has changed from the 60's 70's until now.

LOL I just KNEW the WICKLYNS would get mad that she thinks straight plays are better. Because remember - nothing is ever better than Wicked.

Anyway - check out her playbill.com interview.. It's shorter, and much better.

I am by no means a "Wicklyn". I enjoy the show but was into musical theater long before the production came about and will be long after it closes. I have done both musical theater and straight theater. I personally found her complete disrespect for the genre of musical theater to be a bit disgusting. If she feels that way then why is she even bothering to waste her time in this production? If the role is so far beneath her then why on earth would she accept it?

Well, saying that thing about the play while you're IN a musical is kind of ... weird. Like, seriously. "But for a musical..." like, that's just not right.

I wasn't even reading it so much as the show in particular was beneath her but that musical theater as a genre was. She kept responding as though she felt it wasn't "real theater".

Well, rumors have abounded that there was a lot of tension on the set of The Golden Girls, but I always thought most of it was between Bea and Betty White. Perhaps it was between Bea and everyone.

i agree with colleen, it has nothing to do with her looking down on wicked or morrible. she's looking down on musical theatre as a whole, which is very strange to me. that was an absurdly wierd interview.. apparently there's some beef between her and bea, because those answers are wierd.

also, isn't it stupid of broadway.com to have written that frank l. baum wrote oz instead of l. frank baum? especially when they're dealing with a musical where the lead character is named after the author? elphaba? hello?

You would think Bea (or whoever may act as her assistant or secretary) would have at least sent flowers or a note backstage. Especially with Bea's former appearances also on Broadway.

I love that interview, thanks for the link. Because frankly, I had lost a bit of respect for Rue for going into that piece of crap in the first place, but after doing the show she ADMITS it's a piece of crap!

That's the funniest acknowledgment since John Waters recently told Craig Ferguson that he loves Hairspray on Broadway but doesn't like most Broadway musicals since "they're like militant Hallmark Greeting Cards!"

I think there's something with Bea Arthur and the other 3 Golden Girls. I heard some horror stories coming out of the reunion special they filmed a couple of years ago.

What bothers me is that people always complain about the state of Broadway today, but when an actor or actress who happens to actually be in a show on Broadway makes a similar comment, they are considered snobs. Get over it people. She can say what she wants.
