Any hopes of the 2012 London revival of 'SWEENEY TODD' transferring to Broadway? Too soon after the last production perhaps...
Yes, too soon.
But I'd love to jump the pond and see it.
There's been some talk of it. I suppose it'll depend on how well its run is on the West End. I would love for it to transfer.
Come on guys if you love theatre, come across the pond instead and see the show whilst it's fresh. That's what I do when I want to see shows on Broadway.
Have any of you guys been to the West End, London?
...Yes.
And while it's lovely that you can hop on a transcontinental flight whenever you wish, not everyone can.

Great idea! I'll just get on that. You know? I'll just stop paying rent, stop eating, and get a second job because I love theatre *eye roll*
Some people really have no connection to the reality of others whatsoever /end of rant/threadjack
Unrelated - but how is the physical production for this? Do they use a large orchestra and set?

They have updated the setting to the 1930s. The orchestra is quite large as I understand and there is a full ensemble/chorus as well. It's quite traditional in that sense (score, book wise), but there is a modern feel to the production which works to its advantage.
Google Image the production and you'll see the style of set design - it looks like a 1950s diner with the neon sign, however according to critics and reviews it is supposedly set in a 1930s-like era. They have the Pie shop centre piece and traditional upstairs barber shop like the original.

Come on guys, whilst I appreciate money is tight for some people, London is about the same distance as Los Angeles.
If you love theatre you come over and see it, instead of risking if it will.

I don't think you're aware how much of a prat you're being to say if people really love theater, they'll come see it. Money is tight for many people. They take second jobs to just make ends meet. That doesn't make them less of a theater lover.
PS: airfare to London is much more than airfare to LA.
I saw some vids of this on YT and have to admit that I didn't recognize Michael Ball at all! But would love for it to transfer.
Getting to London is on my bucket list, but since I am up to my earlobes in health bills and unemployed, I guess it will have to wait.
"Come on guys, whilst I appreciate money is tight for some people, London is about the same distance as Los Angeles."
That doesn't make it any cheaper, and for the record most people on here that live in New York don't make little jaunts over to Los Angeles like it's a day trip to Coney Island. Whilst you appreciate money is tight for some people, you clearly don't actually know what that means.
I went home to Florida for the first time in *two years* this year. I sure as hell won't be hopping over to London anytime soon, although I would truly love to be able to.
I get it that not everyone who loves theatre, can just come over to London at a drop of a hat, I was once one of those persons once and then I had to save to see a show in London, but most people who love theatre have plenty of chicken feed.
Besides accommodating and theatre is a lot cheaper in London than New York, besides Sweeney Todd, there is Matilda, Singing In The Rain and a excellent production of Legally Blonde. The West End has matinees on Tuesday and Thursday as well as Wednesday.
P.S. Kad you own a dinner suit, I don't.

Seriously, what planet do you live on? What colour is the sky there?
There are rumours of a Broadway transfer.
Michael Ball has said in interviews that he hopes it happens and Stephen Sondheim has said he would like the show to transfer to Broadway with it's two leading stars too.
It will all depend on how it goes in London and I guess also on whether they can work out a time that fits Michael and Imelda's schedules.
My guess would be spring 2013 at the earliest.

What? Are you referring to my avatar? 'Cuz that's Raul Esparza.
I don't get why you're trying to sell us on the West End. Do you get money for every person who comes over?
I'd love to go to London and see theatre there. Most people I know would. But it costs money that a lot of us do not have or cannot spare. It doesn't matter if theatre and accommodation is less expensive there- it's still an expense. Not everyone can drop the $1,000+ it costs to go to London to prove themselves a real theatre lover. Heck, not everyone in America can drop the money it costs to come to NYC.
All I have to say to Phantom is: What.

That's my on my wishlist, too.
.
Actually, $1,000 for a trip is low-balling it. It'd probably come out to at least $1,600 or $1,700, minimum. A roundtrip fare is close to $1,200, and then you can add several hundred for lodging, food, and tickets. The total cost will either be most of one month's rent or greater for a New Yorker. This is not an amount that can be dropped at will for most people.

haha!
Perhaps if I danced a little on the left leg and then danced a little on the right, between the two I could earn enough to see a show!!
Maybe. But quit bitching about your little "medical problems" and go to London. Seriously, nobody likes a whiner.
I'm glad the bar for ridiculous posts has already been set for this year.
At least we have something new we can reference for the rest of the year.

Oooh, harsh. Who pissed in your Cheerios this morning?
Guess someone didn't get any on New Years eve, eh?
