It's indeed not selfish to HOPE LOJ will be in the recording with what the producers bill as OBC; it is, however, malignant and irresponsible to DEMAND LOJ please the fans by working underpaid and ATTACK and CURSE him when he refuses to do so.

You're 100% wrong as you don't even need to demand to be "selfish." It is selfish to expect any one person to appear in any one project, show, performance, etc. Because it is for your own satisfaction, enjoyment or fulfillment. Not theirs. That is, by its very definition, selfish. And that's fine. But let's at least be honest about it and not try to sugarcoat or excuse it...

Do you think they should've achieved some crazy logistical feats to include Betsy Struxness and Emmy Raver-Lampman as well, then?

I'm not trying to undermine the importance of the ensemble members of the musical but comparing members of the ensemble to the winner of the Tony for best lead actor is a little bit odd.
I hope that producers offer Leslie a good deal and that he does the filming. How's that?

Yeah I'm in the same boat. The footage probably won't see the light of day for years but it would be nice if he was part of it. But obviously he'll do whatever he thinks is best for him.

Yep. Literally correct. Any favoring of "self" over others is by definition, selfish. I'm not sure that's the shared meaning for everyone though at this point.

I'm half expecting some 1930's producer to come on the board and say "Mark my words, Leslie Odom, you'll never work in this town again! You're finished!"
Broadway Legend Joined: 7/29/08
That's basically what half the people in this thread are saying.
This film won't see the light of day for like 5-10 years. LMM hasn't said a time but he's made it pretty apparent that it's not going to be released anytime soon so LOJ's future success/failure has nothing to do with a film that is going to be in the vault.
If he doesn't do it, it's not going to impact your life. To be blunt, if you came to the show, you saw it and that's all he "owed" us, I get that some couldn't get there due to location/money, etc but there's probably been a million events you missed throughout life. Oh well.
Some of you are BEYOND ridiculous.
He's your new hero if he appeases you by participating in the filmed performances but he's evil incarnate if he decides not to do it and because he's leaving the show because *gasp* you haven't gotten the chance to see him in it?!?!
FYI you were never his fans to begin with You're just a bunch of self entitled snots who b!tch and moan and whine when you don't get your way when you want it and how you want it.
BOO-friggin-HOO for you.
GET OVER IT.

People have a right to view the (alleged) situation as a damn shame without automatically being "entitled." Ultimately his career, he can do whatever he wants. He's the one who has to live with his decision to either serve the art or serve his bank account. I don't think serving *us* is what this is really about. We'll forget this rather quickly.

Leslie is very good friends with Shonda Rimes - Shonda is probably writing a television show for him as we speak. And it seems everything she touches turns to gold.

This thread?!?!? Honey, this WHOLE BOARD has JUMPED.THE.SHARK!
He's the one who has to live with his decision to either serve the art or serve his bank account.
Art alone doesn't pay the bills. Art is his job. Art is how he supports himself. He has an obligation to himself and to his family not to fall for this sort of bull**** that he'd do it if he really cared, if he weren't so greedy, if he weren't serving his bank account.
BTW the same could be said of the producers. They could serve art by ensuring their Tony-award winning lead is in the film, or they could serve their bank accounts by increasing their own wealth.

Yes. Why is it that when a producer makes a decision based on money it's good business and when an actor does it he doesn't care about his art?
Next time Miranda writes a show would anyone say for the love of art he should just allow it to be produced without negotiating to try to get more money? Doubt it.

I'm always amazed by the number of ways you all know how to beat a dead horse. You're all reiterating the same points... Over and over and over again. We get it. Is there anything new that can be said about this issue or not?
This is very much a RENT situation. The show is the show. The OBC is a cult thing. But the show ill live on for years w/o them. So get past it.

You can say that again. We're actually the 10th anniversary revival cast.

Whatever happened to that original cast?

For those not following the other thread about the filmed performance of Hamilton, and to wrap a bow on this one, Leslie Odom Jr. will be in it. The filming started today, and Odom was in the show and announced his participation on Twitter in case there was any doubt. He is pleased with the outcome.

Everybody wins. Of course, it probably won't be released for 10 years or more, but what are you gonna do? (No, I don't really know that. No clue. Just thinking about commerce...)
