Also, Eartha Kitt at the Evening Standard awards.
Both women in complete control of the stage and the song.
I'd like Nancy Walker's performance more if the key had been lowered a tad. She sounds strained.
Betty Buckley's performance seems like she was thrown on the stage and told to "not just stand there". It's bizarre, especially as she's such a seasoned concert performer. And she didn't seem to have any struggle to remember the lyrics so why she felt she had move like that and indicate wildly to sell the number is beyond me. Still, I was surprised by how solid her voice remains.

Do you realize those other women had longer to prepare?
This London one day only production had a very very short rehearsal period.
Im not the biggest Buckley fan, and so couldn't picture her in the role, but she was great in the role and given a full month sure would be amazing.
It was was a beautiful production, the standout IMO Ruthie's Sally.

The thing I love so much about Yvonne's version (my favorite) is that "tug" she has in her voice, like Piaf or Garland. It has history and wisdom, but also vulnerability and pathos and pride. So many layers come through.
It's all in the tone, and the vibrato, and the understated (but perfect) phrasing.
Just the sound of her singing paints a thousand words.

Question.
I saw Papermill, 2001 revival and 2012 revival.
I know the last revival at times didn't have an intermission....when I saw it the show had one.
The London concert intermission was after "could I leave you?", which I enjoyed, other productions intermission was much earlier.
Is this the type of show where they can pick an intermission point whereever?
