A lotta Tony-winning spit here.
And wrq, the idea of acrobatic spit from this Ben Magnuson is positively astounding! Somersaults, flips, great arcs, spirals?
Acrobatic spit?
I'll vouch for Hugh Panaro's spitting. I've heard him called "The Spitmeister" and he's proven it every time I've seen him, in both Phantom and Lestat.
One night when I'd been in the front row at Phantom, he defiantly asked me, "Did I spit on you?"
Um, yes.
Oh, and there was an actress in a local production up here in Albany...I think it was "Private Lives." She was the worst spitter I've seen...to the point where I pitied her co-star (and he was an arrogant jerk that I disliked).

Oh, my!
Has it come to that? Hubris in casting one's spray? The naughty thing. Panaro we need to spank your spitter's butt!
Lithgow gave a commencement address at Harvard. To think of him sending his actorly spit over all the ivy at his alma mater is somehow amusing...
I witnessed some pretty intense spitting in the Drowsy Chaperone...but only from Hibbert and Engle

I must admit, TomMonster, that I have thought of their otherly rediculous spit routine several times today on the subject of spittle.
However, that is more spittoonly spit than the actor's magnificent "spray" of which we speak in this thread.
Real Actors Do Spit . . .
. . . but not on Gerald McRaney
" I've never known spit was capable of that. It's quite impressive."
I laughed out loud

I could see John Lithgow's spit from the Rear Mezz!
I was just havin' some fun! But, nomdeplume, you are correct in that all the greats did spit.
Burton, Gielgud, etc, all spitters...

Hot spit!
This thread became hot at 442 views instead of 500. How do they do that?
Observe as spittle shoots to the top in meteoric rise!

Michael Gambon splatters up a storm when he's in full theatrical mode. When I saw him in Endgame in London a couple of years back I was in the Dress Circle and I'm pretty sure I felt a few good wads of spittle sliding down my cheeks. He was f***ing great too!
Colm Wilkinson has the kind of voice that sounds like he's probably spitting everywhere, though having not seen him live (nor particularly having the desire to) I can't vouch for it.

How about the women? They spit, too.

Yep.
Spit is one of the dark secrets of the trade.
Who can expose the great female spitters treading the boards?

nomdeplume, you are genius! I think Will Chase is well fit!
I don't THINK I've heard him sing before... I heard him talking on Seth's BWAY Chatterbox, sounded like a cool guy. And as we've said before - he is well fit, innit!

Ewan McGregor spat a lot during Guys and Dolls. I spat right back, he was rubbish! Sang like a frog!

Who said the audience doesn't get in on the act?
Spit for the stars!
Scream out "Pookie" to your favorite actor (after properly warming up your voice, of course) and watch your spray!
