Of course it's too long. The show's still very much in previews, that's what they're for. Why wouldn't you start out with as much of your material as possible and then thin it down later?

I would advise anyone against condemning the show right now. I saw it and loved it. Was that because it was perfect? No. Yes, it was very long and there was a lot they had to fix, but I think once all that is done, they're going to have one hell of a show on their hands.

I saw the very first public preview on the 3rd and from what I've heard, there's quite a bit that has changed already.

Just remember, you're seeing previews, not a polished show that's been running on Broadway for a year or so.

Edited to add: I don't think it's fair to say there is no humor either. There were a few moments that were pretty funny, and most of the audience seemed to agree with me. It's supposed to be a dramatic show anyhow, not a musical comedy. Updated On: 10/12/06 at 07:20 PM

Not to digress into a political discussion, but pinning the blame solely on the IRA (thanks in part to the mindless contributions by Yanks) is such a gross oversimplification of the situation.

It's not like the IRA is the only group with blood on their hands. Take a trip to Derry (formerly Londonderry) and pop in to see The McGavigan's. Their unarmed 14 year-old daughter was shot in the back of her head by British soldiers on her way home from school in 1971.

And don't even get me started on some of the atrocities committed by the various Ulster groups over the years.

I saw tonight's show with my wife. We simply loved it! She was duly impressed. It was an enjoyable night at the theatre.

There have been vast improvements since I was there weeks ago.

The overture is shorter which adds to the opening drama. Linda Balgord's humor is much more defined and really lightens up the action.

Stephanie and Hadley have great chemistry and my wife found him to be dreamy. Stephanie is a legitimate Broadway diva and the audience loves her.

If you can afford to see the show, I think it is a "no brainier." The music is gorgeous, the set is picturesque. The dancing and voices are wonderful. And, Stephanie is worth the price of admission alone!

I love PQ and cannot wait to go back!

I rather enjoyed today's closing show. The cast and audience had much energy. Stephanie was excellent! She really is a diva. I love the music and look forward to the NY BW CD.

I hope the cast enjoyed their stay in Chicago

I did, he enjoyed it. He loved the seats, but we had a long weekend with late nights and was a bit tired for the show. Like Les Miz, he did NOT like the loud cannon and gun shots.

It is funny the details that he catches. He read the Playbill at home and explained which kid was on as Eoin because he saw it on the board.

I will get more thoughts from him tomorrow. We had a busy home night and I did not get the chance to further discuss the show with him.

Actually, they did. They have always been an essential part of the story. And their crudity is in direct contrast to the kindness of Eponine and the gentleness of Cosette, just as they were written by Victor Hugo. Everything about them fit the show perfectly, unlike the "Boys Will Be Boys" number in Pirate Queen, which sounds like an 80s Britpop song by Madness. The song would work better in the musical Our House.

They cancelled the first preview that I had great tickets for (moved the show back on Broadway)....

Oh well...
