"If I had it my way it would be exactly the way it was done with the original cast on the video with none of those horrendous changes (at least they were in my eyes) done for the revival.

Except Our Little World. That can stay in."

I love "Our Little World". I think it's a great addition.

...I also rather like the inclusion of the "How do you tell your child in the night..." segment of "Children Will Listen" that the recent London open air revival included.

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

Listening to the NY Phil playing the score to Into The Woods would be like watching elephants try to tap dance. It would be a loud, lumbering mess of sound.

Jordan, unfortunately for you Santa is busy at Radio City!

However, a production was done of 'Into The Woods' in Regents Park in London, which was amazing, the show went to to win the best revival at The Olivier Awards, which is the West End equivalent of the Tony Awards, perhaps The Central Park theate can do the same?

A few teasers:

It would depend on the orchestrator — and it would be a guaranteed sell out.

Uninterested in new orchestrations - the originals are exactly right.

Well, dude, sometimes you have to compromise a bit to make the magic happen. GIven that the Philharmonic now has a pretty good record of pulling these things off, with CANDIDE and COMPANY both doing blast out ticket sales, putting this there would be a spectacular gold mine — and have Sondheim as the Narrator? Unbelievable bliss.

So I'm gonna suggest that this is not only the most practical way of having this done, but also the most likely. Now: the question stands: anyone know anybody at the NYPO that can suggest this marvelous idea?

The magic has already happened, and a wrong-headed production of the show won't be magic for everyone, it would just be wrong.

I know a lot of people have no problem with doing a show wrong just so they can do it; I just don't subscribe to that opinion. To me, if you can't do it well, do something else.

Agreed with those not wanting to hear the Phil play the score to Woods... it was scored for a chamber string section and it doesn't sound right with a full string section. Listen to the numbers they do at the Sondheim 80th birthday concert. It loses that "fairy tale" sound that Tunick got so perfectly in the original orchestration.

Man, I thought theatre people were about imagination and the excitement of live theatre. Guess I was mistaken. The purists have spoken.

Oh, please get over yourself. Do you think you alone hold the definition to "imagination?"

It's not "imagination" to screw up a good show by getting it wrong.

Oh please, hon. Get over thyself as well.

If you cant see opportunity bitch slapping you in the face, not my problem. Given how many of you rushed rushed rushed to get tickets for both CANDIDE and COMPANY and then complained that it was sold out before you even got a chance, you're gonna sit there and tell me you'd hold your nose and say "Oh no! Not me!"? As if.

Candide at the Phil was slightly OK - that score can bear the gargantuan forces. Company was, to me, utterly awful whenever music happened. They got a tight, bright score all wrong.

Like I said, I see no point in doing it if you can't get it right. Any revival is not better than no revival.

Sorry, Jordan - would it make you happier if that Muppet version finally happened? Maybe we can do something about that...

Any future revival/concert should have Chip Zien as Narrator/Mysterious Man.

Darling, as mothers used to say to greedy children, "Beggars can't be choosers." (Or was that "buggers?")

Jordan, I was referring to the proposed Jim Henson/Muppet movie of Into The Woods that collapsed upon Henson's death. You must know about that.

And since you probably aren't going to get that reunion, I was asking if something else would make you happy.

It's very simple...

A VERY special "Thank You" to Cathy Rigby's assistant for helping me get Kim Crosby to sing this tonight. Mrs. Crosby in real life is exactly like Cinderella. The kindest and most amazing woman. Love her!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

So happy for you, Jordan!
