A long road perhaps, but hopefully the road to the right person. Streisand afterall, came to the part only after Carol Burnett, Edye Gorme, Anne Bancroft, Mary Martin and Kaye Ballard who were all one time or another 'attached' to the project fell to the wayside.
Right! Finding the right person is the most important thing. I've no idea that Mary Martin was also considered. Well, it's lucky that they place it to someone younger than those mentioned. Also, Barbra does have the resemblance to Fanny.
Bottom line is that Sher has never stooped to the low that is star casting. And hopefully he won't start with Funny Girl.
There are many girls in their 20s out there with amazing voices/acting ability, who deserve the chance at their big break.
Knowing Sher's roots, I hope that is the route he takes. God Bless Regional Theatre Directors who make it big in New York and keep their theatre values.
