Just heard from a reliable source the show will be coming to Broadway this fall, possibly to the Golden.

I saw it in Dallas in a theatre about the size of the Golden and it was pretty much in a standard proscenium house and played perfectly well.

i sure hope this is true. we need some new musical theatre in the upcoming season. right now it's looking pretty barren!
time will tell if this comes to fruition, and i wish all the best to the cast and creative team.

Posted: 6/15/11 at 1:52pmLike I said, very limited knowledge of the show, but just based on seeing pictures of it in a gym, it seemed like Circle in the Square could be transformed into an equally interesting venue. That said, I have been dying to see a show in the Golden, so this seems like it will probably be my chance!

Well, I just watched a short teaser clip of it on Youtube, and I can definitely see how it would fit well into a normal proscenium house. The pictures just made it look like it was less of a stage than it really is.
And, believe me, I wish so much that I could see Normal Heart as my first show in the Golden, but I was in the city the weekend before it opened, and there's no way to get back in the 12 weeks at all. I've tried, and I'm sort of upset that I can't. Sorry to continue the threadjack. Back to Lysistrata! It looks like such fun.

Ugh. Just what Broadway needs, another clunker.
These musicals! How could they do them so well in the good old days and so badly now?

Posted: 6/15/11 at 3:51pmAs much as I enjoyed Lysistrata Jones as frothy goofy fun, it should NOT be coming to Broadway. It a) is not going to find an audience and b) does not have a strong enough score. I guess Douglas Carter Beane REALLY wants that Tony for Book of a Musical though... (too bad he won't get it for this).

Posted: 6/15/11 at 4:32pmI thought it was a great production, but Broadway is probably too big for this cute little show. But good for it! I'd see it again.

Some people just love to throw millions down the drain, don't they?
I hope that they prove me wrong. I doubt they will.

massofmen, if the only shows that transfered to broadway were the ones that received solely positive reviews, hardly anything would qualify to go. look, everyone has their own opinion, and no one piece of theatre is going to appeal to everyone. but the fact remains that this got enough positive reviews from the right news outlets to qualify the prospect of a transfer.
no one can know if a broadway transfer will be successful for ANY show until it actually happens. but this show is getting a lot of industry buzz, great audience reactions (I can at least vouch for the night that I saw it), and people who believe it would do well with new yorkers and tourists alike. i like to think i live in a world where a broadway transfer, from this alone, is possible.
in the meantime, instead of mocking the prospect, why not wish everyone the best, and hope it turns out wonderfully?

qualify? wait your point negates itself. It did get positive reviews which is why the producers are like "MOVE IT NOW WE AREA HIT! We will make MILLIONS! . The show is set in a gym which gives the show all its charm, in my opinion. Its a bubble gum musical with a PG-13 premise. Its an off-bway show period...
It appeals to a young demographic with a dirty cool topic. Why shove this to broadway? This makes no economical sense concerning the demographic it is selling to.

Posted: 6/16/11 at 11:07amBroadway, with its larger marketing budget and overall increased visibility, is the only place you can make money on a show today. So, if your show gets attention downtown nowadays, it's gonna move. Sometimes, it makes no sense, like BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON, and sometimes there are surprises, like NEXT TO NORMAL or IN THE HEIGHTS.

The general manager, Alan Wasser is currently looking for a suitable Broadway theatre to house the production; possibilities include the Broadhurst or the Walter Kerr".
I'm guessing a closing notice for "Baby, It's You" is coming soon?

Posted: 6/22/11 at 7:28pmI attended the matinee today and there were only about 35 people in the audience with many empty seats available. it was an awkward environment for the actors and the audience. Patti Murin and Josh Segara gave strong performances but the material felt like a college thesis. The score is pleasing but not memorable. I wish I had the opportunity to see Bring It On to compare the two cheer musicals of 2011. I also don't understand what is the message of Jones. Can someone explain it to me? Is it a musical about Girl Power? Is it a satire about teen comedies? I see a lot of theater and this doesn't seem anywhere remotely ready for a Broadway transfer. Maybe they should start with a 299 seat theater before they jump to 1299.

^Ticket sales aren't always an indication of how a show might transfer.
BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON was selling out at the Public but didn't make a successful transfer. IN THE HEIGHTS was not selling out Off-Bway, but we know how that turned out...
