My friend's family is coming in from China and they want to see a musical. A few of them don't speak English and we were wondering what show might be good for them to see. They are looking into Lion King so at least the visuals can be appreciated, but it is pricey. Any suggestions?

I would think Phantom would be a great choice.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I mentioned that to her, so it's good to get another thumbs up. I saw Phantom and while it was a tad cheesy, it was very visual.

Priscilla.

And I am sure they'll know all the songs.

Anything Goes would be a classy choice- lots of great dance and a plot that's better not understood than it is understood, since it doesn't really exist in the 1st place.

It's not exactly a 'musical', but ZARKANA might not be a bad choice. If they've never seen a Cirque production, they'd probably love it.

...but if by any chance they end up at CARRIE, please make a bootleg strictly of their reactions. I'd pay for it.

Oh yeah, foreign tourists love the long-running hits.

Didn't some Broadway shows have some audio support in different languages? At least some years ago I remember this was the case.

I took my Argentinian friend to Priscilla Queen of the Desert and he loved it.
As did I.
It's big.. spectacular... easy to follow and the music is familiar.
highly recommend PRiscilla

Phantom is a bore. It's slow. Avoid at all costs.
