I think it thinks it's being The Pet Shop Boys' Absolutely Fabulous.  It misses in every possible way.  Atrocious.

I want to throw in a less gloomy thought: people who have money to invest in theatre are likely also invested elsewhere, and people who are invested in the markets are making money hand over fist right now. They have money to invest in theatre.

This line in the article made so little sense to me that I thought, "well - that's peak 2025."

I'm fascinated that these Bialystock & Bloom producers are so blatantly ripping off both Wicked and Cirque du Soleil's "O" in their advertising... and getting away with it.  Well, maybe they aren't - given the audience revolt. 

I was immediately schmitten with Robbie GK, who was not on my radar, and found the musical theatre background in his bio to be a delightful twist.  He's listed as a tenor and bari-tenor.  I can't find any video or audio of him signing though.  If anyone stumbles across a sample of his singing please link it here?

I think he might - it is discrimination based on race - but given where the case is being heard plus how very trivial the supposed 'damage' is, I'm thinking it might be thrown out.

I had forgotten about this!  I loved that character as well.  That the same director created WHEN HARRY MET SALLY and MISERY is astounding.  What a remarkable loss.

Just watched his 'fave movie' The Ballad of Wallis Island over the holiday weekend.  Y'all.  Seriously.  Watch it.  Your soul needs it.

Censorship is offered validity in comments in this thread and in the 'pearl clutching' impulse revealed by the author of the article.  Not sure how you don't see that, Kad - but admittedly, it's a topic that I'm quite invested in.

Oh.  THAT's where they put all of the unconvincing, unsatisfying contrivances that made me not like the stage show.  They saved them for FOR GOOD.  Lordy, that's not a good movie.  But hey - I enjoyed the first one MUCH MORE than I expected to, and now it makes sense why. 

I can't say much to flatter this film, but Condon's ability to bring his passion projects to both the stage and screen is truly remarkable.  I guess I'm a fan of his producing chops but not his directorial vision. 

Kara Young makes any production a must see for me.  She most certainly is 'a name'.  I'd pay to watch her butter toast. 

From the reviews and comments I've read here, I can't make sense of Liberation's half filled houses.  Is it a distaste for political POV shows?  Any ideas?

That his accusations are always confessions is only a tick less consistently observable than that everything he touches dies.

Quite bummed that I don't think I'm going to be in town to see this.  I've never had the opportunity to see a first reading of a show and then what became of it.  Curious, with the varied reviews, whether the 'people really want to laugh' element will propel it forward.  I hope so - I laughed my ass off and I've been a Drew Droege fan since his Chloe videos. I did not know this!  But I stand by that a frustration with his career is in the DNA of his ill advised post.  Both can be true.
