Catherine O'Hara has passed away at 71 Jan 30 2026, 06:19:01 PM
When the truly unique ones leave us it just hits harder. How lucky were we to be here when she was???

I think it thinks it's being The Pet Shop Boys' Absolutely Fabulous. It misses in every possible way. Atrocious.

Hamilton and Slavery - Unrevivable? Jan 15 2026, 05:57:13 PM
Fan123 said: "I'm not sure if the show actually deifies Hamilton much anyway, although that's a much bigger discussion. For example, Hamilton is portrayed as a man who wants a war to happen, any war (he was wishing for one since his childhood in the Caribbean), so that he can leverage it to benefit himself by advancing socially. He's lucky enough to pick the winning side of the war that he eventually fights, and so he can give a 'righteous' cast to his ac

I suspect it is due more to the number of major flops last season, some despite solid reviews, that has made investors more anxious than they have been for a long time."
I want to throw in a less gloomy thought: people who have money to invest in theatre are likely also invested elsewhere, and people who are invested in the markets are making money hand over fist right now. They have money to invest in theatre.

‘Wizard Of Oz’ Performance Outrages Audience With Hundreds Walking Out Dec 28 2025, 08:14:26 PM
TheatreMonkey said: "Now I'm curious -- why were the munckins on stilts?!"
This line in the article made so little sense to me that I thought, "well - that's peak 2025."

‘Wizard Of Oz’ Performance Outrages Audience With Hundreds Walking Out Dec 28 2025, 06:09:43 PM
I'm fascinated that these Bialystock & Bloom producers are so blatantly ripping off both Wicked and Cirque du Soleil's "O" in their advertising... and getting away with it. Well, maybe they aren't - given the audience revolt.

Robbie G.K. loves being part of a 'Heated Rivalry' on HBO, but musical theater has given him the 'utmost joy' Dec 23 2025, 07:13:40 PM
I was immediately schmitten with Robbie GK, who was not on my radar, and found the musical theatre background in his bio to be a delightful twist. He's listed as a tenor and bari-tenor. I can't find any video or audio of him signing though. If anyone stumbles across a sample of his singing please link it here?

Playwrights Horizons sued over discount for POC Dec 23 2025, 02:02:43 AM
CoffeeBreak said: "Like it or not, he may legally have a case here."
I think he might - it is discrimination based on race - but given where the case is being heard plus how very trivial the supposed 'damage' is, I'm thinking it might be thrown out.

Rob Reiner has died Dec 15 2025, 07:47:09 PM
John Adams said: "my favorite of his acting roles wasSheldon Flender in "Bullets Over Broadway".
I had forgotten about this! I loved that character as well. That the same director created WHEN HARRY MET SALLY and MISERY is astounding. What a remarkable loss.

I just really want to believe he started yelling "Starbucks!" when they detained him.

NYT: It’s a Homophobic Slur. What’s It Doing in So Much Theater? Dec 1 2025, 04:45:19 PM
Kad said: "Idiot said: "Telling a playwright what words they can use is not OK."
Good thing nobody here is doing that, nor is the article."
Censorship is offered validity in comments in this thread and in the 'pearl clutching' impulse revealed by the author of the article. Not sure how you don't see that, Kad - but admittedly, it's a topic that I'm quite invested in.

Telling a playwright what words they can use is not OK.

Universal's WICKED Films - News & Discussion Thread Nov 27 2025, 11:34:50 PM
Oh. THAT's where they put all of the unconvincing, unsatisfying contrivances that made me not like the stage show. They saved them for FOR GOOD. Lordy, that's not a good movie. But hey - I enjoyed the first one MUCH MORE than I expected to, and now it makes sense why.

Jennifer Lopez to Star in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Film Nov 17 2025, 12:26:16 AM
I can't say much to flatter this film, but Condon's ability to bring his passion projects to both the stage and screen is truly remarkable. I guess I'm a fan of his producing chops but not his directorial vision.

Nicholas Braun & Kara Young in GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES Nov 12 2025, 05:53:23 PM
Kara Young makes any production a must see for me. She most certainly is 'a name'. I'd pay to watch her butter toast.

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/9/25 Nov 11 2025, 03:07:47 PM
From the reviews and comments I've read here, I can't make sense of Liberation's half filled houses. Is it a distaste for political POV shows? Any ideas?

"Messy White Gays" reviews Nov 7 2025, 12:46:53 AM
Quite bummed that I don't think I'm going to be in town to see this. I've never had the opportunity to see a first reading of a show and then what became of it. Curious, with the varied reviews, whether the 'people really want to laugh' element will propel it forward. I hope so - I laughed my ass off and I've been a Drew Droege fan since his Chloe videos. (If you haven't seen them, launch YouTube right now!)

Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica Oct 6 2025, 03:52:37 PM
MemorableUserName said: " Again, the character is Blackin this version. You really think Hughes is jealous that a Black actor was cast as a Black character instead of him and thinksthere was any way he would/could/should have been considered for it?
I did not know this! But I stand by that a frustration with his career is in the DNA of his ill advised post. Both can be true.
