'Oh brother. I stayed out of this thread so sanddm might perceive how many people in her shrinking demographic, who have seen her shows previously and loved her, are now over her and did not in fact like the show at all.'
Makes about as much sense as you normally do. She is selling out stadiums and arenas everywhere in the states so i think her 'shrinking demographic' is still at a pretty good size at the moment. As for 'they did not like her show at all', who is 'they'? You have heard a few who did not like it, Ive also heard lots who loved it, some on Broadway World. Some people will not like some of her shows, some will have hated Blonde Ambittion, i hated The Girlie Show, that's Madonna for you.
'And of course, people are always praising her for getting people talking which makes her a "smart businesswoman." I assure you, s, nobody outside of her circle of fans and her legions of ex-fans are talking about the tour.'
Well the press seem to be talking about it a lot, print and TV judging from the many news footage segments from the US tour ive seen. The critics are raving about the tour and it even shot the album back in to the charts. Of course just her fans (and you) are talking about her.......that's who she appeals too.
'Her inflated prices guarantee she's raking in the big bucks, technically a "hit," but the fact that she's touring does not register in this cultural moment in the US *at all*.'
You just said the same again, so please see above response.
'And now, she's being talked about. Sure, she's being talked about as an idiot, but HEY! She got them talking!!!! That's what matters, right??'
Most people who are talking about this incident seem to think she was being sarcastic and aiming it at all the idiots who have been calling him that for the longest time.
'If she was half as smart as people think she is, she would know that utterly humorless people like herself can not pull off irony. Ever. But let's give her a pass, okay? Because while she's making money hand over fist testing the patience of her most ardent fans on this leg of her tour, the poor thing hasn't had a holiday this summer.'
I would strongly disagree she is humorless, she has always had a dry sense of humor.....maybe, just maybe it's people who are up in arms about this silly comment that are humorless?
I know it's KILLING you Namo that your predictions of the tour getting savaged by the critics in the US and not selling have not come to pass, but if you want to jump on this comment she has said so you can continue to believe in her downfall and give you some peace then i say go for it, i would not have it any other way.
As for Jim Colyer, insulting the President is one thing.......insulting Madonna is quite another, shame on you.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
I think you're missing how cultural capital works in the US during this decade. To give you another example: there have been miles of newspaper inches for the new No Doubt record in the mainstream press but it has ZERO traction.
To put it another way, the Madonna concerts happen, but Madonna is not happening. At all.
Let it go Namo, you were wrong, it's ok. And yes America is such a stand alone unique country that news footage and people talking about something there is completely different to the rest of the world. The fans are going, the media are talking, the critics like the tour and it has moved the album up AGAIN for a second week. I'm pretty sure that's all that really matters right?
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Nope it's back in the top 200, last week it went back in at about 144 ( after been out of the top 300) and this week is up again in the 90s. Namo please for the love of god just admit you were wrong, just for me, go on. You said the tour would get terrible reviews in the states and would not sell, you were wrong on both counts. It's ok even the mighty get it wrong some time, I know it hurts, I know your scared but it will be ok. She will have other tours that might not sell or maybe even get terrible reviews, but now you are clutching at straws, I hate to see that. That sting in your tail has gone, that venom that you throw out so beautifully written is fading. Succumb my sweet Namo, nobody will judge.... Would you like a hug?
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
Namo you prediction about lack of press coverage and the scathing reviews the tour would receive have been wrong. It has been covered in every city it stops in and the reviews have almost been entirely positive.
"Even the people on here who liked the tour had significant "cons" lists about the experience they endured." Also wrong. In the other thread there was one person who saw the show that hated it. Others, including myself, enjoyed themselves but had critiques about certain part of the show. I know this doesn't fit into your narrow view of Madonna fanatics, but it also doesn't mean they hated it just because it wasn't their favorite Madonna show of all time. When it comes to Madonna your hyperbole is just as bad as you claim SADMs to be.
Whatever Namo. You're implying because not every single person in the thread loved every single part of the tour that the show is so awful that it's something people had to endure. And that's just bullsh!t.
Dont we already have a stupid Madonna tour thread that just rehashes the same argument over and over and over and over and over and over and over?
