Im wondering what museums in New York, Washington, Chicago or elsewhere have a good collection or displays with theatre artifacts or film artifacts.
Also if anyone knew if there were any special exhibits in New York related to that around November this year. Thanks

Anytime I'm in LA, I always check out the rotating, free exhibit at the Academy.
In Chicago, the public has free access to the second floor lobby exhibit of photographs at the Gene Siskel Film Center.

I'd definitely recommend the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens. Quite a bit to see, including a fantastic Jim Henson exhibit, and a very interesting room dedicated to film make-up, including the masks used for Orson Welles in "Citizen Kane" and Dustin Hoffman in "Little Big Man." Some cool interactive attractions as well. Worth the trip!

Do they have the cane from "Citizen Kane"?

Lincoln Center library. The 3rd floor especially which contains a treasure trove of original scripts available for perusal by the general public.

The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in DC has a whole collection of film, television, and stage treasures, including but not limited to Judy Garland's ruby slippers, the original Kermit the Frog puppet, masks from The Lion King on Broadway, numerous costumes from Dolly, and, last I was there, Idina Menzel's original act two Elphaba costume. And it's free! Definitely worth a visit.

I second the Museum of the Moving Image. Love the Jim Henson exhibit and lots of great exhibits to browse.
