I've heard this thrown around about his lyrics before. Does anyone know the origin?

Also do you agree?

I think his lyrics aren't necessarily bad they just have an extra dose of cheese

Well, that's pretty much what "schmaltzy" means. (And I realize that's not what your initial question is, just wanted to point out that it doesn't mean his lyrics are outright bad.  I have no real opinion - am not familiar with enough of his work.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I've never heard this.

And by the way, "Schmaltzy Maltby" is the sort of bad rhyme Maltby would never put in one of his lyrics.

I definitely didn’t. I’ve heard it many times regarding his work.
