"Even as a controversy has erupted on Broadway over the use of pre-recorded music in the upcoming David Byrne musical, Here Lies Love, audiences for some musicals this past season are noticing the return of something that was once familiar: big orchestras."
It’s great that some productions or revivals are using fuller orchestras. I do think that a lot of the late 50s and early 60s cast albums sound fuller and richer.
The 1960 and 2023 recordings of CAMELOT were recorded with nearly the same orchestrations and musicians. Which to you prefer?
I love the new 2023 recording, but I’m asking which recording had the better production/engineering choices. I think it’s the 1960 recording.
In determining which version sounds better, don't discard the importance of a good producer. Goddard Lieberson who produced the OBC Camelot recording was easily the best of his era.

Big orchestras are something every fan of David Byrne's musical should see and hear
