It's a hit or miss really, but it's worth listening to because it's a major landmark in musical theatre. Songs such as 'The Sun Has Got Its Hat On', 'Leaning on a Lamp-post', 'The Lambeth Walk' etc,.
Sure it is! A local community theatre did this production. It was very bubbly. "Leaning on a Lamp Post" is great and a few others. It's high class. Quite a few of the songs may get stuck in your head. And then your dad can forget about ever getting the CD back from you...

It's such a great show!!! i was the male lead bill in the production at my school, and the music is so much fun.....if you listen to the cd, the songs will always stay in your head lol. My Favorites are Weekend at Hareford, Me and My Girl , Lambeth Walk, Love Makes the World Go Round, and Leaning on a Lampost! :)
You should not only borrow it, you should burn a copy for yourself! Robert Lindsay and Maryann Plunkett gave charming performances (Both won Tonys for their performances). The songs are simple and charming. My favorites are "The Lambert Walk", "An English Gentleman", "Love Makes the World Go 'Round" and "Thinking of No-One but Me".
WARNING: Many of the songs WILL get stuck in your head! :)
Praying Decca Broadway will put "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope" on CD!
I loved Maryann Plunkett in this recording (assuming it's the Broadway and the London cast), especially in "Once You Lose Your Heart". Her singing, with the lovely orchstration from piano solo to full orchestra, made this my favorite song from the show. Whatever happened to her? She did 3 shows right in a row: second cast of Sunday in the Park, second cast of Agnes of God and this. Then she disappeared.
This show was a lot of fun. As said before, "the songs stay in your mind", very enjoyably so. The Pittsburgh CLO production, the first week of August, sounds like a dream. It stars Sutton Foster! I wish I could be there.
Mr (Robert) Joffrey told his dancers to see the show because he believed that Robert Lindsay was a physical comedy genius in the line of Chaplin and Keaton.
" ...the happiness in the tune convinces me that I'm not afraid."
Actually, the London production in 1986 was a revival. It's a cute show, but it's mainly a showcase for a clown actor. I thought it was ok, but wasn't thrilled by it.

I got to see Sue cella ( now playing Velma on tour in Hairspray) playing the jane Summerhayes role on broadway a few times. She was and still is a knockout.
