Isnt there an understudy for Elphaba in the tour cast? Or was the understudy not ready to go on so they FedExed Kristy?

yes Kristy is the u/s temporarily. I heard Steph should be back on the 29th. Not sure though.

I know but they should have an understudy even if it is the tour
I'm pretty sure that Jenna Leigh Green is an understudy.

I'm think I read that there is a tour understudy but since it was the first perfromace she wasn't prepared to go on. I'll try to find the article where I saw that, I don't remember who it was. I do know that Jenna Leigh Green is an understudy for Elphaba, but I guess then they would have had to worry about who would play Nessa.

I heard it from Kristy after the show last night.
I stated this in an earlier thread but will be happy to share my thoughts again.
Ms. Green is the Elphaba understudy on tour and if Ms. Block was to be out for 1 or 2 performances, then Green may well have gone on. I believe that all involved knew that Block would be sidelined for a few weeks and would therefore miss the tour's opening night and the all-important first set of reviews. I may be wrong here, but I'm sure the producers decided that they would rather go into opening night with Ms. Cates who has played the role a few times on Broadway than Green who would be still finding her way in the part. Simply, Cates is a safer bet than Green. In addition, Green going on would put 2 leads out rather than 1, which again doesn't look good on opening night.
The show has been a phenominal success on Broadway and the producers (rightfully) want to be sure that the tour gets off to a good start and is not looked at as a 2nd rate tour.
Would Rent a Car and Drive to CANADA to see Jenna Leigh as Elphie
