Someone told me they read on a message board that Sara Ramirez had a surprise concert at a pub near Times Sq and was doing songs from her yet unreleased CD. Anyone hear anything about this? Just wondering if it's true and if so how was it.
I was at the concert. It happened two weeks ago at a little pub on Restaurant Row at 11 PM. It was completely unpublicized so just a few people (comparatively speaking, of course) were in attendance--most likely friends of hers and people that were already in the bar. She sang about ten songs--all of them unbelievably gorgeous and pitch perfect. Her only accompaniment was her guitar player. Her voice is just unbelievable, and she is about a zillion times more stunningly beautiful in real life. Just flawless. I spoke to her guitar player after her set to say that these songs should really be recorded. He said that that is what the evening was all about--to pitch these particular songs for an album (so I assume producers/agents were there??) Anyway, the perfection of her voice that night made me think that she should do a live album in similar venue. Just outstanding and mind-blowing. The best musical event I have been to in months/years, and she really blows the other current crop of popular Broadway singers of this generation out of the water.
Well she is doing a CD with Eric Idle but I assumed it would be a comedic CD. Doesn't sound like it from what you are describing. I can't wait to hear it. I'm guessing it was at Don't Tell Mamas?
My impression was that these songs were a pitch for an album (in fact that is what I was told)--so don't think that it will be released for a while, if it even happens. It certainly should though-- Quite great. I don't recall any comedic songs, but mostly what would be considered jazz ballads. I recognized none of the songs, and I did overhear someone mention that they were all new, but I cannot verify that. Updated On: 1/31/08 at 02:45 PM
I love me some Sara Ramirez so I'll be getting her album, but I do wish she had recorded some Broadway tunes instead of Eric Idle's stuff.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Is it considered too obsessive that I joined just so I could comment on this thread? I so hope this CD happens soon, she has such a wonderful voice. I love her.
