This was my 12 time seeing Young Frankenstein I have to say it never gets old to me. It is so entertaining and you see new things every time. Roger Bart was out and his understudy Jon Patrick Walker was on. In my opinion I liked him much better than Roger Bart. I think he should be the next Dr. Frankenstein. But I think the whole show goes to Christopher Fitzgerald and Andrea Martin. They never give a bad performance. They added a few new lines in the show that got the audience laughing really hard. But the whole cast was great tonight no one looked like they were phoning it in.It still looks as if the really enjoy what they are doing. It was a packed house. I really don't understand how it did not get a nomination for best musical. It clearly deserved it.
When Megan comes on for the surprise scene and she introduces her entourage instead of Bob she says Richard and makes a joke using that name. Also when Dr Frankenstein is getting ready to get hung and Igor takes the blame he added a few new lines to the scene. I forgot what they were but I do remember they had the audience laughing really hard.
Yes I was really hoping to see RB but as mentioned I did think JPW was great. I didn't feel the same about missing out on MM however... if she had been in it I think it would have been a 5 star affair rather than 4.5.
I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Disappointed for the bad press and reviews it received. The cast is stellar. I really hope Fitzgerald pulls the TONY win. He deserves it.
And you think of all of the things you've seen, and you wish that you could live in between ,and you're back again only different than before...

Fitzgerald was the best thing in that show, but the overwhelming hate for the show from the Tonys sours his chances. Breaker, Burstein, De Jesus and Gaines' shows were all recieved warmly, so that's why they're put above Fitzgerald (except for maybe De Jesus, who gave a fun but not exactly Tony-worthy performance).
The 1/2 performance -- we left at intermission. We were given comped tickets from a production office. Decided to give the show another chance. Couldn't sit thru Act 1 the 2nd time around.
I love this show, too. I think if you can sit nearer the front half of the theater, you enjoy it more----facial expressions, etc. (MM's expressions during "Deep Love" are worth the price of admission alone---IMO)
Broadway212, glad you are still enjoying the show. I only saw it once and enjoyed it very much. It doesn't deserve the bad rep that it has around here.
So it's safe to assume that you've already seen every other show on Broadway?

Yea I have seen most of the broadway shows but I keep going back to Young Frankenstein because I think it is a brilliant show. The jokes are great. I also think think the music is really catchy. I am also a Mel Brooks fan so I think all his work is great .
I think Young Frankenstein is a great show as well. I actually think it's better than The Producers. I just feel that people are comparing it too much to The Producers, and they're two different shows.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
ACL2006 I also think it is much better than The Producers. I don't think people understand that they are two totally different shows. Maybe no one was ready for Mel to put out a brand new show so soon. But I think he did a great job and I plan to go see it many more times.
WOW! 12 times is pretty impressive. I saw the show and I really loved it. I agree with what ACL2006 had to say about it. Everyone was expecting it to be another Producers. But it's a great show in it's own way:)
