Posted: 8/20/12 at 8:20amI started this thread, simply to ask a question. How were basically new members reaching legend status in such a short time period? I guess I was the only one, to think 1000 postings in a couple month period was out of the norm. I was curious if they were manipulating the system. If the answer is they did it simply by posting, several times a day. seven days a week, then great. That is their perogative and their enjoyment. For me personally, unless Rob is offering free health benefits at Legend level, Life has thrown me too many responsibilities outside of Broadwayworld. If this thread became a us vs them, that had nothing to do with me.

When a theater enthusiast first discovers Broadway World, it's a great experience — a board full of information and dedicated to a world we love and can embrace.
Then the harsh reality sets in and some very nasty people make rude, ugly comments about others that on other moderated chat boards would be deleted, and those posters banned. Instead, they get free reign to spew their vitriol.
That's why I rarely post here anymore. As much as I love Broadway, I can't stand this legendary ugliness — and it's to the bone.
Proposal: Require people to post under their real names.

Is there a rule against writing "Woolworth Tower"? Or is just that we usually call it the "Woolworth Building"?
ETA: Are you back from vacation, PJ? It was very disconcerting to know you were away.

If one feels one is dismissed, I think it's natural to look for some status indicator that separates one from those who seem to be taken seriously. This isn't a snark against ChiChi, just an observation of human nature. (Or primate nature, as I suspect all apes do the same.)
I got a student evaluation once that complained with some heartache that I favored the theater majors and only cared about their opinions in class discussions. The thing was, I had no idea who was a theater major and who wasn't. I don't know what I did to that student (and evaluations were confidential), but his unhappiness still haunts me a little (even though I assume he's forgotten all about it).

OXBLOOD: homicidal maniac in midst...take cover
PUCE: nothing happening; dull
SAFFRON: private conversation threadjack
UNMELLOW YELLOW: rampant self-deletion
VERMILLION: a poster is having a total meltdown that will have residual effects (like leaving the board or at least a prolonged absence)

I used to think threads like these were posted in jest.
Then I realized people actually are concerned about these incredibly meaningless things. I never even notice what "level" other members are. These levels are a silly, fun thingo not meant to be taken seriously and the first person to base their responses on member levels, would be the asshat the century.

There is some crazy **** going on in this thread.
Any of you guys remember that arrogant legend Kringas? Thank god he doesn't post here anymore.*
*That's an in-joke aimed strictly at legends. If you don't get it, you're not supposed to.
Seriously though, this is a ridiculous thread. I can't help but feel that it's a personality clash being masked by this whole status non-issue.
There are lots of new posters who I already love. Wynbish, Addison, growl, egghumor, and many many more who I can't think of right now.
My opinion of them is based on the content of their contributions to various discussions, not how many posts they have made.
And yea, a new member who posts some blatantly inane and trollish thread is gonna get shat on by the general population. But again, that has to do with their post, not their tenure.

Posted: 8/19/12 at 7:59amOh, Art -- I didn't mean your original post! I understood your question. I meant the debate that followed with Chi-Chi's insistence that all of us that are "legends" are evil.

We cannot divulge those highly guarded secrets. You will just have to wait in antici-pation.
Shhhhh......
(Still shaking my head at the 'need' for this thread, but there I go, throwing my level around and being judgemental.)

I've become a legend since this thread started! I can't believe I've had a thousand things to say - they sure do add up.
I assume caligraphy-style directions to the clubhouse will be hand delivered tomorrow? Do we all get together in robes and have medieval-style banquets?
