Update: the teacher that sent him to the office now claims "no bags" is an unwritten rule that's been in effect for 10 years. The school now says he was suspended for cursing, which is not what they told the mother when the son was suspended.

I'd love to know how this unwritten rule was put "in place" ten years ago. Presumably an announcement was made to the class of 2003, and it was passed down verbally to incoming freshmen.

Backpacks were not allowed in my middle school class room due to student/ teacher privacy.

Probably a teacher went through a student's bag and they put in the policy to stop it in the future.

I like when people and organizations think digging a deeper hole is a good idea.

Also, I did not realize backpacks/bags were an issue.
