I heard a midget hung himself and nobody noticed on the set while they were filming despite the fact that the shot in question shows the three actors walking directly towards the body that is clearly a body and not a bird.
And Shirley Temple was supposed to be Dorothy.
And there's a secret ending that shows Dorothy getting out of bed and finding the ruby slippers waiting for her there.

Yeah, I had trouble getting past that one, too. I'm pretty sure nothing actually spewed out of her shoes.
Also, what "white dress"? Her blouse?

If you had visited the set you would notice that a lot of the colors, from costumes to sets to makeup, would look wrong due to the colors photographed in Technicolor. Just check out the pair of ruby slippers at the Smithsonian. They are a very dark burgundy. If they had been made in the red that we see in the finished film they would have appeared almost orange on the screen.
As for the sparks, the final effect was rotoscoped. Most likely something would have had to shoot out of the shoes, or from that general area, to give the effects animators something to essentially trace over. So what we see in the final film is animation drawn over something, which I guess could have been apple juice.

I was confused by the mention of a white "dress." I assume they mean the blouse. (Though, interestingly, in the book she's given a new, green dress in Emerald City, which turns out to be white once she's taken off the green glasses.)
And I get the rotoscoping; I just don't see why anything would have to physically shoot out of the shoes if it's an optical effect (any more than Glinda's bubble needed to dangle from a string in Munchkinland). But I can believe it was apple juice. In fact, I'd like to believe it.

As does the ribbon she ties around Toto's neck while in the Emerald City. The Wizard even admits later that the glasses were what made the Emerald City live up to its name. Interestingly, Baum kept the idea of the glasses for the next book, but did indeed fill the Emerald City with all the jewels that the Wizard said weren't there. I don't think the glasses are ever mentioned again after the second book. Baum didn't seem all that concerned with continuity as the series progressed.

Yes, the blouse was a pale pink, not white.
No, apple juice didn't physically come out of the shoes. According to what I've heard, they filmed apple juice spewing out of a hidden opening with a bright light hitting it over a black background, then tinted it yellow and seriously upped the contrast. They also sped the footage up, and used it as an optical over the shot of the shoes with the witch's trembling hands.
They used apple juice because it was thicker than water (so is blood!), and it reflected the light really well with a slightly yellowish tint.
Even though I've heard this for years, to me it just looks like hand-drawn animated sparks.
Maybe it's true, or maybe it's another "hanging Munchkin" rumor.
Actually, the whole movie is a rumor. It never really happened.
See image below and draw your own conclusion ... or draw your own sparks ...
