"well that's insulting. why do you think that the majority of today's youth only likes things that have been introduced in their lifetime? i'm 18, and i don't see why i should have to list the 200+ cast albums i have from pre-1990. on RECORD *and* CD and 8-track. wow. and you thought we were all at home watching fear factor."
Well first of all, I am not exactly sure where you are trying to go with the "Why do you think the majority of today's youth only likes things that have been introduced in their lifetime?"
Second of all, if you do have cast recordings on records, 8 tracks and cds more power to you. I was actually trying to include the older posters in that thread. I didn't want them to limit themselves just to their cds. To just limit them to cds when a lot of their lives were lived before the advent of cds would be exclusionary in my opinion. There are so many threads about what people listen to now. I wanted the thread to be slightly different. (And I didn't exclude anyone. I said I wanted to hear mainly [not exclusively] from older posters to see what albums/cast recordings have stood the test of time.)
Third of all, Fear Factor is one of the few reality shows I actually enjoy.
Fourth of all, I wrote those questions with the intent of being disproven. I even said I was feeling a little jaded. My point is we have had a lot of posters who have seemingly no knowledge of musicals before Rent. The Wickedites (different from people who actually make valid points about Wicked) seem to think that Wicked is the best musical ever when they haven't even seen any other musicals. You said "why do you think that the majority of today's youth only likes things that have been introduced in their lifetime?" Well I'd like to counter that question with a quote.
"The past is a source of knowledge, and the future is a source of hope. Love of the past implies faith in the future."
