Poor Mikey doesn't realize that at the writing of the Constitution, the US had no standing army and relied on normal Joe to have a gun in his closet to be called upon to form a militia to defend the fledgeling country (i.e. the Minute Men). I don't think if it were to be written in today's world it would include assault style weapons, drones or nuclear weapons.

The Constitution is like the Bible. Some parts are totally open to interpretation while other parts are not. And why is that, you may ask? Just cuz, that's why.

"oy- Mikey- the militia represents, "is" the PEOPLE"
The Supreme Court disagrees with you.
District of Columbia v. Heller
"The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia"

At this point, arguing with Mikey is like arguing with a two year old.
They can't comprehend facts. They just kick and scream when they are told not to do something.

Oh REALLY? the Supreme Court does not believe that the militia represents and IS the people? Who do you think the militia is made up of? Who do you think our armed forces represent? TURKS AND CAICOS?
Now post a quote which says the Supreme Court disagrees with me. I mean, as long as you have your head buried in the archives, you might as well look that one up too.

You Want It When, the 4th Amendment prohibits "unreasonable searches and seizures"
And, as a matter of fact, what is unreasonable depends on the circumstances of each individual search and seizure and all the facts that are known to the police at the time. There are many legally recognized exceptions to the warrant requirement including "exigent circumstances".
Just like there are many permissible limits on the right to assemble (in time, place and manner of assembly), the right to freedom of religion (outlawing polygamy) and the right to free speech (one can't yell fire in a crowded theater, one can be sued for libel or slander, etc.).
Very few people argue that the rights to assemble, to freedom of religion and free speech are completely unbridled.
The idea that the Second Amendment is more sacred than these is what we are questioning.
Even with the right to bear arms, there are at least some limits to the Second Amendment that almost everyone agrees on. Very few would argue that citizens have the right to possess a nuclear arsenal or to park your tank and Howitzer outside City Hall.
So strict construction is not an option. The issue is of what those reasonable limits are.
Just like with any other constitutional protection.

Aw, and I missed it! Can someone paste it into this thread (where mikey once again got his ass handed to him)?
Thanks in advance.

Anyone else thing that Mikey is truly...deranged?
I am being quite serious. This man (and I use that term loosely) seems to really have some sort of mental issue.

Henrik, I am not exactly sure what your point is, except I forgot to add an "es" to search. I think we agree.
I was actually (at least in my head) referring to the Patriot Act and electronic eavesdropping.

How does one school another person in something, when they can't even get the wording in the amendment right?

Yes, I do, fingerlakessinger, and I said it here years ago - of course, I think I was referring to one of Mikey's many alter egos, CountA, but just the same, I truly think we are dealing with a very sick individual. I wish we (collectively) would learn to simply ignore him and all his other personas. Pretend we have the ignore button feature this board used to have, and talk around him, suestorm, abbynormal, and all the rest of these made-up personas, as if they had never even posted.
Unfortunately, it isn't ever going to happen.

No, I wouldn't go as far as to say "deranged." He, and other trolls probably have issues which might be addressed in therapy, and trolling message boards is one way of manifesting the problem. Cheaper than therapy or meds. I don't think they are as dangerous as how the word deranged sounds.

fingerlake,
A few years ago a student of mikey's found one of his threads by accident through google and joined here to give us the whole backstory.
There had been a thread about what a troll mikey was (he wasn't mikey then btw....can't remember his screen name at the time but it was close enough to his real name that this student knew immediately who he was) at the top of the page and this former student came in and basically exposed everything about him.
As I recall he has this pathological need to do everywhere what he does here. It's not even always the same point of view. For example if he's posting or discussing in a conservative crowd he will play the part of a liberal.
He's never been interested in a discussion or even a debate. He just needs to play the part of the "outsider" and defend a contrary line of thought.
The truth is there is much that can be debated about the points he cuts and pastes, particularly the ones relating to economics.
There are always different ways to interpret raw numbers and there are also many measures that are used to determine economic health. So many in fact that there is an entire course in most MBA programs devoted to specifically understanding what they all mean and how they all fit together.
The main thesis, if you will, of these courses is that no one measure and no one standard can come close to encapsulating the very complex state of our country's fiscal and monetary situation at a given time. They need to be contextualized and taken together in tandem to get a decent snapshot of where we stand.
So in that thread yesterday where he linked an opinion piece and went on to argue that it was irrefutable proof of our economy under Obama, well it's just not the case.
And in truth I would love to have a discussion about that particular article. But mikey doesn't want to have a discussion (nor do I think he has the understanding of basic macro-econ to engage in one); he wants to pretend to be persecuted and then gloat when he finds an op-ed piece that agrees with his side.
Is he racist? I definitely do not think so.
Does he really believe anything he posts? I definitely don't think so.
Do I think he's delusional? Again, no. But his need for trolling makes his mental state somewhat questionable.
He needs to play this role of outsider. Which is why I imagine he seeks out message boards and whatnot where most members are of a similar mind set so he can fulfill his need to troll.

Taz, are you certain that Mikey is that other guy who supposedly was a teacher? I remember that whole brouhaha but I can't remember his screen name either. Dollypop may remember it because I recall that he had a pet name for him, which was a slight twist on the name. OHHHH!!!! I remember now, it was something about art, and Dollypop changed it to farts.

Taz, that makes a lot of sense. It certainly explains why a supposed conservative can't cogently argue his own points.
But I find it so hard to believe he's an adult, much less a teacher. The all caps and multiple exclamation marks, along with all the virtual giggling--ROTFLs and LOLs--make it seem like someone barely out of their teens.
