"As to not minding "giving them a little happiness if this is where they get it.", I don't like feeding into a mental illness."
I'm coming from a different place than you are, Ghostlight.. My sister was mentally ill. I say "was" because she died a few months ago. All she wanted was cigarettes and soda. That's what she spent her money (that we gave her) on. And cheap little trinkets that she bought at Walgreens and other such stores.
The trinkets were pure junk. She gave them as gifts very often. The cigarettes were toxic (I'm sure she smoked more than 2 packs a day), and the soda - well I don't have to comment on that. She drank it all day long.
She had a very sad life alone in her wheelchair with little to no happiness. Even though she spent her money on junk, if we could give her a little happiness, we were delighted to.
