This little slive of direct-to-DVD schlock may be the greatest movie ever made. The sequel to the 1065 horror cult classic "2000 Maniacs," the sequel picks up in modern days and a new crew of unsuspecting Northerners find themselves in a small Southern town on the day of their annual festival. And then, just like in the original, the locals start massacring the tourists in HYSTERICAL, bloody disgusting fashion as repayment for the North wiping out the townspeoples' ancestors during The Civil War.
This is 80's horror, baby: everyone in the cast is smoking hot (and the girls are seriously SMOKING HOT,) everyone has sex and everyone gets butchered in unique and CREATIVE ways. The original featured a guy getting rolled down a hill in a barrel full of nails, this one is equally imaginitive -- a girl gets drawn and quartered even. The effects are cheap, none of that computer generated hooey. But every kill is marvelously gory and disgusting, with blood and body parts thrown all around.
Tongue's planted firmly in cheek the whole time, especially by the lead baddie, played by one Robert Englund, aka Freddy Krueger. But every stereotype you can possibly imagine is played up, lampooned and, in some cases, cut into pieces and fed to other people.
Seriously, a great bit of horror/camp fun. I think Herschell Gordon Lewis would be proud!

Ha! I've been wanting to see it, but I haven't gotten around to it.
Popa, if you want to see a wonderful little horror/comedy, seek out Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.
PS - I just saw that the role of Laurie Strode has been cast in Rob Zombie's Halloween. I'm so excited!!!

Posted: 1/31/07 at 1:32amThat was filmed right here in my town! Robert Englund came into my bookstore one day when he had some time off and he could not be a more delightful human being. Soft spoken, well mannered, FUNNY... in fact, despite the Freddy Kreuger mantle I was just a little crushed out on him by the time I finished ringing him up. There were no other customers in the store at the time, and as we were talking he started relaxing and we were having a nice conversation. Unfortunately, some teenagers spotted him off the street and came in shouting "Freddy! Hey, Freddy! Blah blah blah Freddy!" He politely obliged a picture with them and then ran for safety.

I think if I met Robert I might scream and cry a little.
I'm not necessarily proud of that.

I'd love to meet him someday, in all his interviews he seems so personable. I have one of the Freddy dolls that got taken off the shelves for being too scary back in the 80's and I want him to sign the box so badly to just make hokey nostalgia 10x more cool
