Very Powerful and heartbreaking report by Lara Logan about the inept state depts security and response in Benghazi

Lara Logan: Contrary to the White House's public statements, which were still being made a full week later, it's now well established that the Americans were attacked by al Qaeda in a well-planned assault.

Five months before that night, Morgan Jones first arrived in Benghazi, in eastern Libya about 400 miles from the capital, Tripoli.

He thought this would be an easy assignment compared to Afghanistan and Iraq. But on his first drive through Benghazi, he noticed the black flags of al Qaeda flying openly in the streets and he grew concerned about the guard forces as soon as he pulled up to the U.S. compound.

Morgan Jones: There was nobody there that we could see. And then we realized they were all inside drinking tea, laughing and joking.

Lara Logan: What did you think?

Morgan Jones: Instantly I thought we're going to have to get rid of all these guys.

Morgan Jones' job was training the unarmed guards who manned the compound's gates. A second Libyan force -- an armed militia hired by the State Department -- was supposed to defend the compound in the event of an attack. Morgan had nothing to do with the militia, but they worried him so much, he could not keep quiet.

Morgan Jones: I was saying, "These guys are no good. You need to-- you need to get 'em out of here."

Lara Logan: You also kept saying, "If this place is attacked these guys are not going to stand and fight?"

Morgan Jones: Yeah. I used to say it all the time. Yeah, in the end I got quite bored of hearing my own voice saying it.

Andy Wood: We had one option: "Leave Benghazi or you will be killed."

Green Beret Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Andy Wood, was one of the top American security officials in Libya. Based in Tripoli, he met with Amb. Stevens every day.

The last time he went to Benghazi was in June, just three months before the attack. While he was there, al Qaeda tried to assassinate the British ambassador. Wood says, to him, it came as no surprise because al Qaeda -- using a familiar tactic -- had stated their intent in an online posting, saying they would attack the Red Cross, the British and then the Americans in Benghazi.

i did answer your question, but i guess since it wasnt the way you liked it it was ignored. I will answer again though

the fact that people got killed is troubling enough, whether under Bush, Lincoln or Obama. the problem here unlike other times is
1) the coverup which like watergate as all my professors say was worse than the crime
2) they cut security and repeatedly were told there was a threat and ignored it.
3) 60 Minutes finally has found this story so big they cannot ignore any longer. im just glad and a little suprised you didnt accuse them of being a conservative organization.

Romantico. Deaths are horrible no. matter who was president. This is not an us or them issue.

The problem is

1) the cutting of security
2)the begging for more security that was denied
3), complete ineptness of the response
4) and most of all the coverup which like Watergate brought everything up a level.

Agreed. The problem is, where was this equal outrage when these other deaths occurred? Those Republicans (Mr.Roxy???) screaming about Benghazi were silent during the previous attacks. Makes it very difficult to not look like it is either Race or political party motivating them.Like the Tea Party. Where were they before Obama? First Tea Party rally was April 2009.Obama was in office less than 90 days yet they were already blaming the economy on Obama and now they are just a hate group.

All about fairness. Instead it's about hypocrisy. There is no story.What cover up? What proof do you have? By all means,contact Daryl Issa Sue.He'll really want to talk to you.Security cuts? Really? Gee, who made those cuts? Why haven't they found a smoking gun yet? Do you know how long and how many investigations have taken place over Benghazi? Talk about waste of tax payers money.

I have a feeling if Hillary were to announce tomorrow she was not going to run in 2016,Benghazi would fizzle out almost overnight.

Romantico. You may be right about that I don't know I wasn't hre for that.

If they weren't they shouldve bee outrage d about the deaths but as far as I know there was no coverup.

Remember this attack happened on 9/11 and the stare dept was claiming for a week, hoping it would go away, that it was just an unorganized protest over a video. I mean come on. Thats so insulting to our intelligence nevermind to the dead and their families.

"On October 27, CBS aired a report on the Benghazi attacks that featured the claims of a supposed eyewitness using the pseudonym "Morgan Jones." Today, the Washington Post revealed that Jones, whose real name is Dylan Davies, previously filed a report with his security contractor employer saying that he "could not get anywhere near" the compound the night of the attack.

The flawed CBS report has since been trumpeted by conservative media and Republican politicians.

In his letter to CBS executives, Brock writes that the story should be "immediately retracted and an independent investigative committee needs to probe all aspects of how the story was reported.""

Wow, that's pretty outrageous! But CBS has a great track record of being ruthless when bad reporting makes i on to its airwaves. Remember the housecleaning that went on when that bogus "George W never showed up for his National Guard duty" report was proven false. I wonder how many people will be fired over this one.

I agree Mr. Roxy. I hope they watch her testimony (every minute of which is on You Tube) so they can understand exactly what Secretary Clinton said and why and not just let some one diminish their relatives sacrifices with 5 words out of thousands spoken in that testimony.

I would not vote for Hillary for a number of reasons - her sex NOT being one of them. Having said that I think we would be better off as a nation if she had been President over Obama. She is much more qualified than he ever was or will be.

This is probably why there is this feud between the Clinton and Obama camps. They feel wrongly or rightly that Hillary was one of the most qualified candidates ever and Obama one of the least qualified ever. But he won fair and square. I asnt eligible to v so I'm not sure who I wwould've prefered

This reminds me of NY politics

Donald Manes, Queens Borough President , was being groomed to be the next mayor. He thru a monkey wrench into the planning when he killed himself. Enter David Dinkins. It was deemed his time event though he proved to be unqualified despite what Di Blasio says.

Obama was a freshman senator with no governance experience but it was deemed his time even though Hillary was more qualified. She was thrown under the bus even though it was thought to be hers for the taking. Obama plays Chicago politics with those who disagree with him.

His friends who got him reelected are finding out he jettisons people when he no longer needs them . He has no sense of loyalty. Ask Oprah as he gave her the shaft . Although she will not say it in public she is keeping her distance from him and his Chicago mafia and its head Valerie Jarrett.

Could you provide some sort of evidence of this? I've been in Chicago politics and I can tell you point blank- one of Obama's biggest faults is that he is too concilaitry. I think this is the sort of charge clueless Republicans toss out because they do not want to admit that he is a terrifically charismatic candidate. Like Bill Cinton I have seen this man enter a room and make everyone fall in love with him. It's sort of the opposite of Mitt Romney's power.
