Even though I believe it was amatuer city @ the White House in trying to cover it up and utter callousness on Hillary's part with her "What does it matter " remark CBS was right to pull it after one of the main parts of it proved to be unreliable or an outright liar
To bad they did not exercise the same judgment on the Dan Rather fiasco years ago.

Roxy you have me mystified- Dan Rather fell for a liar, reported a false story and was fired. Is that not OK by you?
And THERE IS NOTHING TO COVER UP in Benghazi- I know that is hard for you to grasp after a year or more of BENGHAZI COVERUP headlines on Fox but EVERY investigation has shown NO COVERUP. IF there were facts that proved the "cover up" side would CBS have had to make stuff up to run a negative report
You make me want to start a thread on George W Bush's National Guard servie that uses those forged documents as evidence.

Posted: 11/10/13 at 12:27amPretty sure Roxy called the near universal skepticism of the Benghazi story and it falling apart at the seams with remedial level of inspection to be an organized 'mob hit of a star witness'. So it's really, really cute he still thinks there was a cover-up after now noting that 60 Minutes was right to retract this opportunist's book they featured. I'd love for Roxy to break down exactly what was covered up in the attack, the spectre of which is clearly more important to right-wingers than the actual loss of human life, namely Ambassador Chris Stevens who is 180 degrees opposed to whatever Roxy and the right wing hold regarding foreign affairs.

And, then again, what if both Dan Rather and Lara Logan were right?
Just saying.
What if...?

"And, then again, what if both Dan Rather and Lara Logan were right?

This sounds like a time travel conundrum. Had that 60 Minutes story been proven factual than does that effect the 2004 election and does that mean President John Kerry and does that therefore, nullify the Benghazi incident altogether? **dramatic music**
And no offense to people who want to pat 60 Minutes on the back for apologizing but as others have said, Lara Logan is incredibly hawkish to the point of embarrassing in her journalist history. 60 Minutes airing an apology segment seems to be taking notes from when This American Life aired their retraction story about the Apple factories in China. Major difference is, however, the discovery of that original report being factually incorrect was much more internally scrutinized and This American Life honestly could've gotten away with what they aired. However, they chose to set the record straight. 60 Minutes was repeatedly called out until they realized they had no other choice.

That original troy was reported thousands of time, cited as "evidence"in congress and so on and so on. 90 seconds of vague "mistakes were made" erases none of that. AS we see in this thread, it's entered the pantheon of true things we hate about Obama for those so inclined. .

im not sure what else you expect them to do.

Franky I expect them to fire everyone involved. I expect Fox to stop repeating the lies from this report. I expect Republicans to get a life. And most of all, I expect news organizations to look at the biases of their reporters. Remember a couple days ago when I pointed out that Lara Logan pretty obviously had an agenda here?
"Many people know that in 2008 Logan married Joseph W. Burkett, a defense contractor she met while stationed in Baghdad to cover the Iraq War for CBS News. Logan and Burkett were both married to other people when they became involved, and the story of their war-zone love affair—complete with reports of a brawl between Burkett and CNN's Michael Ware, another rival for Logan's affections—lit up the tabloids at the time.
What most people don’t know, however, is the nature of Burkett’s work in Iraq. He was an employee of the Lincoln Group, a now-shuttered “strategic communications and public relations firm” hired by the Department of Defense in 2005 to plant positive stories written by American soldiers in Baghdad newspapers during the Iraq War.
“He did information operations,” one former colleague of Burkett's told Gawker. “It was really spooky stuff. We worked with one of those special spooky IO outfits that didn’t even have a unit patch.” It's the kind of work for which a close relationship with an American network correspondent might come in handy.
And it paid handsomely. Under an “indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract,” the Pentagon promised the Lincoln Group up to $100,000,000 to assist the military’s Joint Psychological Operations with controlling local media coverage of the American occupation. The Lincoln Group later became the target of congressional and Defense Department investigators over its handling of U.S. cash and its propaganda tactics.
CBS News never saw fit to disclose that one of its star war correspondents became romantically involved with a man who was paid by the U.S. government to manipulate civilian public opinion about the disastrous war in Iraq. Nor has Burkett’s background ever been reported in much detail. Most recently The New York Times described him as a “work-at-home Congressional liaison,” without noting his employer."
Well IMAGINE THAT!?

The Democratic total of $1,020,816 was given by 1,160 employees of the three major broadcast television networks, with an average contribution of $880.

CBS ordered “60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan and her producer to take a leave of absence Tuesday following a critical internal review of their handling of the show’s October story on the Benghazi raid, based on a report on a supposed witness whose story can’t be verified.
The report also said Logan should not have done the story in the first place after making a speech in Chicago a year ago claiming that it was a lie that America’s military had tamed al-Qaeda.

Conservative logic at it's best- It doesn't matter if it was all a lie- AT LEST HE GOT THE STORY OUT!
Fox News host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) on Wednesday said that Lara Logan’s botched reporting on Benghazi made her a “hero journalist” and he was shocked that CBS News would force her off the air.
CBS News confirmed on Monday that Logan and producer Max McClellan were asked to take a leave of absence after an internal review of her reporting found major flaws. Logan had been forced to apologize and issue a partial retraction when reports from other media outlets showed that her source, security contractor Dylan Davies, was not at the U.S. mission in Benghazi during the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attack as he had claimed.
On Wednesday morning, Fox News host Brian Kilmeade asked Huckabee to respond to the news that Logan had been effectively suspended indefinitely from 60 Minutes.
“Very shocked,” Huckabee said. “And I think that the fact is that we’re missing the big story here. We still don’t know what happened in Benghazi. Our government lied to us, they covered it up.”
Report Huckabee is a vampire- you could be a hero too!
