I **LOVE** this.
Has anyone seen any?
Random showtune sing-a-long in the streets, anyone?
I just walked by one at the NW corner of Columbus and 62nd. Apparently you can't play before 9AM because it's covered at the moment.
I really like the idea!

Every time I've walked past one, there has been someone playing it.
Note to people playing pianos: Give other people a chance to. These pianos aren't installed for you to give a concert.
But, a casting agent might walk by and make them the star of a Broadway show!
Like sitting at the lunch counter at Walgreens where Tina Turner was discovered.
We have had 6 pianos on our 16th Street mall in Denver for the past month or so. Pretty cool idea. I think ours go away at the end of the month. I don't understand why they aren't keeping them through the summer. I think they said this was a trial to see if people will play them. My understanding is that people are during the day and someone wasplaying one last week when I was down there after the theater.
Perfect time for a NYC production of the Julian Slade musical SALAD DAYS .....
Brilliant! However I would feel mighty intimidated sitting my mediocre butt and playing a tune for people passing by.. eek! Sucks that they did this after I visited NY though. It would have been a cool experience to play the piano on the streets! Nearest one for me would be San Jose! San Jose?? Why not LA??
Is it related to Make Music Day that the had in DUMBO on Monday? There were all kinds of small combo bands and singers with accompanists tucked away throughout DUMBO on Monday performing all day. It was very magical. You would turn a corner and there was a French Cabaret singer with an organist performing... turn another corner and a small Jazz group. Just one of those things that make living in NY wonderful.
