A new version of "BEACHES"

With the recent passing of Garry Marshall, news from Lifetime today will surely make him start spinning in his grave. Lifetime announced that next year they will broadcast a remake of the Bette Midler film, "BEACHES". Idina Menzel will be playing the part of C.C. Bloom, no word on who will be playing the coveted part of doomed Hillary Whitney. Lifetime said that "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "Glory of Love" will be used along with additional music. I think that this film is definitely on the no-no list of things to not remake, "BEACHES" was written specifically with Bette Midler in mind, and I think that no one (sorry Idina) should mess with this.

I agree. I won't be tuning in. I like Menzel but don't care to see her in this role.

Milder really elevated this. I don't think Idina could pull it off...and I don't believe she's right for the part at all.

There's no need for this. Lifetime is exploiting this property for viewers. I can't think of worse casting-the dynamic, ebullient CC Bloom played by the serious and dour Idina Menzel. Idina would be great for the Hershey role. They'd have been really smart to cast Cheno as Bloom and Idina as Hilary. That could work.

Mary Testa has the gravity and the joy to pull off Bloom.
