I remember the talk shows saying that the whole thing was false.
Poor Dr. Wilbur.
I love Vicky/Niki!
Remember Marci Wade and Carla and Meredith?

I used to love Marcie Wade, Vicky's assistant who would drug Vicky and then dress up as Niki Smith and cause problems. It was so cool.

We just rented the newly released DVD of Sybil and we were both in awe of the production. I remember being terrified when I watched it as a child, and the terror is still there, along with a huge dose of empathy for the character. It is really a fantastic film, with wonderful direction and performances by the three leads. I don't know how I feel about a remake. Of course the main question is: Why? When something is done perfectly the first time, why try to do it over again.
Sally Field - you ROCK.

I remember what a shock it was to see the former Flying Nun and Gidget in this TV movie. The general population had NO clue that Sally Field could ACT... and she shattered any previous perception of her abilities with this one performance.
I think it's one of the finest ever given on television, or anywhere for that matter. (I would "tie" it with Cicely Tyson's turn in Miss Jane Pittman.)
In many ways, the '70s was the last Golden Age of television drama. (Sybil, Roots, Miss Jane Pittman, Brian's Song, Helter Skelter)
I wonder whatever happened to Sally Field? She didn't do much after Sybil, did she?
*checks out her Oscar bookends*

Posted: 8/23/06 at 8:54amSally is in some new TV drama that airs this fall - she replaced Betty Buckley, I believe. I love her work. According to the interview with her on the DVD extras section, she studied very hard before auditioning for the role of Sybil, because she wanted to show the world that she was not just a teen comedienne. I think it (Sybil) was an astounding performance, and gave her a whole new level of respect in the acting community.

Posted: 6/3/08 at 5:53pmYou're right, we don't need a remake of this. Joanne and Sally were wonderful.

Couldn't Piper Laurie get a ride to the audition?

Heck, an Oscar winning actress has got to work!
I'd like to see the new Sybil along with the Redgrave Baby Jane.

Posted: 6/3/08 at 6:35pmIt really should have been Sally Field playing the doctor. (Remember the Patty Duke "Miracle Worker"? In black and white, she's Helen. In color, she's teacher).

That literally made me laugh out loud.
