Anyone who says this doesn't matter is a liar. And a hypocrite.
Had this been a republican you'd all be posting with glee.
I don't care either way, and I'm not defending republicans or democrats with my comment. I am simply pointing out that what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
And yea, it definitely matters.

Ditto to the ditto.
I have a feeling his eyes on the AG job will be for naught now, which is fine with me.
He always rang a bit hollow to me - my mom thought he would be great.
Apparently, the LA Times has a bombshell on a candidate earlier this year, involving an affair, that included details and specifics. I guess this must have been it.
I don't think this hurts or helps either candidate. But, I can see that it backfiring on the Republicans if they somehow try to make hay out of it.

In the big picture, I don't really care what anyone does in their private life. It's none of my business and I'm just not interested. HOWEVER, it does bother me when someone stands before the cameras with their children and terminally ill wife and portrays himself as the model of a devoted family man, repeatedly denying something he knows is true.
Does it mean that I would not vote for him were he running for office? No, it doesn't. I would assess him on his experience, his stand on the issues and his record of service to the country.
But that isn't even an option at this point, so now I simply see him as an opportunistic, self-centered, lying bastard!
Maybe he uses Bed Head! (I'm sorry. That was mean. But I'm mad.)

don't think heterosexual men should be allowed to run for office any longer.
Seriously. When was the last time one of the did anything right?
Let women and gay men run the country. We'll all be a lot better off.
Wasn't he having an affair with a woman? And, are you implying that women and gay men don't cheat? Seriously?

It does not matter. It's his private business.........not ours. It's between him and his family - it's none of our business. He's allowed to be a human being with flaws and faults, just like the rest of us.
And, now we are finding out that he told his family about the affair 2 years ago, shortly after it happened. It's his business....not ours.

Let women and gay men run the country? Well look at how Margaret Thatcher ruled England and Ed Koch mayored NYC.
Edwards should have rented porn and be done with it. He has only his family to answer to. I hope that the Fox News Channel and Drudge do not glee too much; remember Newt Gingrich and what he did to HIS sick wife?

I just read Jane Smiley over at Huff about this, and as much as I'd love to take the "with endless war and the economy crises, let's get over who someone f--ks stance," it's just too effing easy.
If it's a private mattter, then be a man and dare to handle it, you know, privately. Have the balls to say "that's none of your business, ask me about my poverty plan." Don't stand there with your terminally ill wife and trash the press as obsessed with the lurid. If you're gonna take the high road, your address better be 35 High Road, not a rest room at at hotel in Beverly Hills. Do I care that Edwards wanted to boink a tacky spikey haired woman who (get this) changed her name to sound MORE like white trash? No. But please don't bury it in a tacit agreement with your wife, then run for office and throw the entire Democratic Party under the bus. What if he'd come closer to the nomination? It's a staggering slice of hubris, and though I don't care what he does with his hair or his d--k, I care about losing the White House, especially now.

Auggie, great post. People's personal life is their's to do whatever and their price to pay.
However, I have no respect for him risking the future of this election. So irresponsible.

Posted: 8/9/08 at 12:58pmThank God that Obama's running against an adulterer. There's no way McCain or the RNC will try to make anything out of this. When asked, McCain gave a "No comment" response.

mccain won't have to. the media - whom both edwardses have been lying to - will keep it alive for him. this will last at least another two weeks minimum and that takes it into the democratic national convention. and elizabeth's still speaking is she? yeah, it won't get mentioned at all then.
mccain says no commment and says it's a personal matter and looks like he's taking the high road while the media take their pound of flesh from mr & mrs breck girl.

What amazes me most is that he thought he could actually run for POTUS and not have this come out.
What was he thinking? The other side (and while in this case it's the GOP, but if the tables were turned the dems would do it too) was obvioulsy going to find this and exploit it.
I think miss P called it hubris, I agree and take it one step further to delusional.
