AMERICAN IDOL
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1876
Posted: 4/30/09 at 12:13pmMatt, how were the results not about Adam? Arent the results about the contestants? I'm just not sure what you're getting at there... They do that every year with one of the frontrunners...and it's the producer's doing it, not the contestants. That's why I wont watch any "results" show without tivo, so I can ff through the cringe inducing crapola.

Posted: 4/30/09 at 12:26pmOh, I wasn't blaming Adam for that stupid results fiasco. Remember, this is the first season I've ever watched of AI, so I'm not familiar with their stunts. Yes, the results are about the contestants, but last night was All About Adam. Again.

^Yes, unfortunately that was the producers BS
I'm fairly certain this was one time he would have MUCH preferred for it not to be all about him

Matty, I was actually unaware you were an idol virgin. These stunts are constant and get progressively worse.
Of course, there were real moments of drama when Daughtry, Latoya London and JHud were eliminated early.
I seriously suggest taping it and watching the end only.
Dancing with the semistars is the same thing...alot of crapola filling an hour when the results actually take 10 seconds.

I don't know about that, since it kept him front and center, once again in all the news reports last night and this morning.

atta girl, danmag...I unfortunately got a call saying..."did you just see what happened?" so I tuned in. I could've been very happy with an SVU repeat and a text message.
BTW, Natalie Cole...does somethin' gotta give?

I agree with Matt, Taylor Hicks is far more interesting than Adam ever could be.
Adam was so smug last night, automatically thinking he was better than everyone else....I was praying that he was the one getting the boot! Maybe now he will stop acting smug and so self righteous. It just seriously drives me crazy just to watxh him. My opinion may not be the popular one but I do have a right to have one and I serioualy think the kid is overrated. kris and Danny were by far the best of the evening and even Allison was better than Adam this week. The voting was right.

Posted: 4/30/09 at 1:10pmI see confidence, but no smugness...not sure what people are seeing I am not.

I don't see smugness either. I think he's very humble. In fact on another site they had a bunch of screen caps from last night, and you can see genuine happiness for Kris when he was safe, and concern when they were about to read the final results.
People are seeing what they want to see. Whatevs.....
Anyway, next week I will not only be watching the entire results show, but tivoing it. Chris Daughtry confirmed today that they will indeed be performing the first single from their new CD, No Surprise, on Wed. 5/6. He co-wrote the song with Chad Kroeger from Nickleback.

Please cite some , wait, ONE instance where Adam is acting smug and/or self righteous.

Yeah, that was a strange comment. I'm not a fan of Adam's vocal stylings, but smug? How?
It's always curious to me how people think they really know contestants on a TV show.

Posted: 4/30/09 at 2:57pmOh God, I gave up long ago on the crapfest known as Dancing With the Stars. After the producers bent over backwards to feed John O'Hurley's obese ego, I knew it would only be downhill and it has turned into a ridiculous mess. I stopped watching when it was clear that nobody cared who could actually dance well.

Oh my...I can't watch reruns of Seinfeld anymore because I learned to hate John O'Hurley so much...talk about smug!
The Mr. makes me watch it. What I do for love.

re: AMERICAN IDOL#1893
Posted: 4/30/09 at 3:14pmYeah, I don't think Adam is "smug", but he does tend to get a bit cocky during his performances in a way that irritates me a bit. It's mostly invoking the banshee that turns me off completely. It reminds me of Melanie on So You Think You Can Dance. She had the incredible leg extension, which she had to toss into every routine when the judges first complimented her on it. She was an amazing dancer and if I remember, made it to the final four, but the judges had to finally ask her if she could get through a dance without "the Melanie leg". That's how I feel about Adam's banshee. I think he sang only one song without it. He's talented and creative and versatile, but for the most part, the only creativity he shows in his performances are how to alter the arrangements of songs in order to invoke the banshee. I was over it after the first song.
re: AMERICAN IDOL#1895
Posted: 4/30/09 at 3:45pmI think Adam's pretty smart in choosing his songs and singing styles.

Not Dancing With the Stars, but So You Think You Can Dance. And I go the name wrong. It was Melody in the first season. Great extension, but you saw her leg go up every freakin' week like she was marking her territory or something.

Adam was so smug last night, automatically thinking he was better than everyone else....I was praying that he was the one getting the boot! Maybe now he will stop acting smug and so self righteous. It just seriously drives me crazy just to watxh him.
...If you don't mind me asking, how did you feel he was acting smug and self righteous?
Ok so I get how some people could have seen the actually choosing sides as being rude, but I mean.. he was told to pick sides. I didn't see it as rude at all. I just think he's a very honest, forthright person. And he is about everything (ex: when asked indirectly about his sexuality his response was "I have nothing to hide, I am who I am, and this is about singing" Totally honest and forthright) :)
And as for the bit of shock he showed- I just don't see how anyone in his position would have managed not to look someone shocked and jolted. Mostly because he didn't even have an off night! I mean, obviously people who don't like him probably didn't enjoy it, and even the fans are all going to have their individual opinions. But in general it was an extremely well received performance. And most definitely not a BAD one. So that, in combo with the fact that.. come on, he's been the clear front runner for many many weeks now. Even the most humble person in the world isn't going to get at least a little used to the sailing by, so that landing in the bottom 2 is a pretty big jolt. Plus the way they handled it in general was just mean. They almost ALWAYS have the person who has to choose sides be safe, and tell them before hand so that at least all they have to do is pick the side. So the fact that they randomly made it a bottom 3 as opposed to the usual bottom 2 at this stage (he had every right to assume he was safe based on that), and then pulled it on him? not cool.
So yeah, I just... I do not see any cockiness from him. At ALL :) There's reeeally really a big difference between cockiness and confidence. Adam only has the latter. Confidence= swagger on stage. Cockiness= diva even off stage
