Man, Tink, now we know about your true "wearing dresses above the coochie" self.
And yes, I did just say "coochie."

Just felt I should give my two cents on the subject. I work at Hollister (as I have for five months), which is a company extremely similar to Abercrombie (it makes sense, as Abercrombie owns us) but stressing the more California/beach look, whereas Abercrombie has no specified 'location' look. We're constantly getting new novelty shirts in, but I feel like I should both offend them and berate them.
On one hand, Hollister has been cutting back on them. I actually haven't seen any new shirts since the beginning of December. Also, between October and November, we took them down from prominent displays in our wardrobes and began to sort of pile them up on each other so that less were displayed. If that's any sign that Hollister cares, then hey, maybe we're getting somewhere. And we as models/associates (that's our title) never direct a customer to those shirts, as it's not only awkward between a customer and an employee to discuss shirts, but if we were to say to a customer, "You should definitely buy this shirt" when it's demeaning to someone or some gender, there are some issues there that the customer might feel. So they're not great sellers, I'd say, but we don't really condone it simply because we work there.
At the same time, though, the fact that we DO sell such shirts is ridiculous. Some are funny, but when we're closing down the store at night and folding down every room and coming across shirts we've never seen before, some are just completely and utterly foolish, and we actually notice such. Some examples:
-Three Ho's Are Better Than One
-On Abby, On Becky, On Carrie, On Kristy, On Julie, On...
-I offered my honor, she honored my offer, and the rest of the night, I was honor and offer
Whenever I'm working at checkout/cashwrap and someone comes up to buy one of these shirts, I always give a smile as expected, but I see these people and I wonder, what kind of person buys this shirt? For you to believe some of the things said on them is ridiculous, and you look like a complete fool wearing this shirt out.
So I'm torn. It's not as if we want to carry these shirts, but at the same time, some of them are just in good fun and it's difficult to judge those who wear them and those who sell them/endorse them. I don't think they promote any sluttage, but they're definitely no benefit to society. Psh.

Posted: 1/5/07 at 4:57pmi'm sorry volleyballer, by working there you're part of the problem. i fear that the only way you can redeem yourself in the eyes of the girlcott is to publicly quit your job with a letter to the editor of your local paper and then burn down the store.

Volleyballer, I'm glad that you don't condone them. My stepfather's daughter worked at Abercrombie one year to help pay for college and she was appalled by them as well. I'm sure that people don't say "OH HEY ABERCROMBIE SELLS THOSE SHIRTS, I WANT TO WORK THERE!" I don't blame you for wanting a job, but I'm glad that you realize how ridiculous some of them are.
#209abercrombie t-shirts promote male sluttage
Posted: 1/5/07 at 5:27pmso while it's wrong for the store to sell them, you see nothing wrong in someone profiting from what you call demeaning? you're a case study waiting to be published.

Posted: 1/5/07 at 5:29pmPapa, if the store's going to xist, someone has to work in it. And if you're a college student trying to get through school, you need the money. The salespeople aren't to blame, it's the corporation itself.

I'm just trying to understand exactly why it is you have such disdain for me. I hope you'll take the question seriously. I would like an answer, and I would like to have a semi-civilized conversation every once in awhile, if that's at all possible.

I just wanted to add my two cents to this discussion...
I'm 16 years old and a junior in high school. I live in Fairfield County, Connecticut. An area very much like that of "The OC" (unfortunately) and filled with plenty of pressures. When I see these shirts, I take them for what they are: shirts. They're not there to tell someone what to do or how to act. They're there to cover your body that way you aren't running around naked, and perhaps provide a few laughs. The fact that people have vendettas against these shirts is ridiculous. I agree with the other posters who have asked where the people are who will read a shirt and say "oh man, GREAT idea. Why didn't I think of that?!" Show me this person to change my mind, because I honestly can't believe that there is some sort of demographic for this.
I also want to echo orangeskittles' sentiments which IHeartMyGeek has either missed or chosen to ignrore. You are running around preaching (to people who neither care nor want to listen) about not wearing shirts that are "suggestive" when you yourself have an avatar of a dress more revealing and suggestive than these shirts you're so against; and you're fully aware of the hypocrisy of it all.
Anyway, that's just my opinion of the situation. Coming from a young and vulnerable mind.

Oh Jesus Christ people.
If you don't like the shirts, shut TFU and don't buy them, but to spemd all this time saying how it degrades both men and women is pointless.
I have a shirt that says, "Does this shirt make my boobs look huge?"
They are funny, and you are just wasting your time whining here.
Get a life. Or better yet, volunteer at a center.... for anything.

Some centers force you to wear certain shirts, though. That could be too degrading for some.
