So sad that Turner Classic Movies is only showing 2 films in their "Retrospective of a terrific actress". They should of at least done the entire day with her films, as they did with many other major actors who passed on.
What movies are they showing? When? I agree - she deserves a full WEEK, not just a day. One of the best.
And RetroBoy......Incredible!! Seeing those posters was absolutely amazing, reminding me of all her great movies.
Here's what the TCM Programmer has to say about it:
One issue is that we feel the tribute should definitely include primetime and so we need to get rid of one of our theme nights, and it's always difficult to decide which night that should be. For example, we didn't want to interrupt Henry Fonda as Star of the Month or the Louis Malle tribute or the Biopics festival or the horror films, etc. Also there are days and nights that we're playing either TCM premieres, or we're playing films that we are about to lose for a long period of time - we don't like to take those out of the schedule either. We hate to displace the two movies that were on that Sunday night but it seemed like the best festival to eliminate. And the silent film we have that night is the premiere of the restored version of "Battleship Potemkin" and we didn't want to lose that one, so we kept it to a double-feature. Also, we are asking Robert Osborne to do last-minute introductions for Ms. Kerr, but given the time frame we didn't want to add too many films to the workload. I'm sure there are other ways and nights it could have been done and everyone will have a different opinion on what's best. That's the reasoning at least.

They've often had to do that, though I wonder why they couldn't interrupt the Henry Fonda night. Star of the Month nights have often been preempted by the passing of a major star (Shelley Winters preempted Robert Montgomery), even when the films to be shown haven't been on in ages. Alas, it's TCM's call to make, and I'm more thankful that they acquired the rights to the brilliant films she did early on in her career in England to show from time to time.
Well, I'd easily interrupt Henry Fonda, for Deborah Kerr!
Her time of death was so eerie because right before I found out she passed, we were reading from The King and I in my Theatre class. Sad loss, she was quite the actress.
What a wonderful tribute thread to such a gifted actress.
I really think she was the Meryl Streep of her day. If you watch her performances in From Here To Eternity, Separate Tables, and The King and I, it's hard to believe that's the same woman in all three films.

A fantastic tribute to a great film actress. Her performance as the misguided and sexually repressed governess in THE INNOCENTS is unforgettable.
I wonder if there is a Kerr boxed set?
So many good films to choose from. Sad she retired in 1969. She could have done films like THE LONELY PASSION OF JUDITH HEARNE, MURDER BY DEATH [where's my Dickie?], A ROOM WITH A VIEW, MRS. BROWN, etc.
I advise people to get NIGHT OF THE IGUANA to see a wonderful actress in peak form.
I'm also a great advocate for THE SUNDOWNERS, for which she was nominated for an Oscar the sixth and final time. What a great movie and what a fantastic performance. She also had fabulous chemistry with Robert Mitchum - really worth to check it out.
Okay, I'm watching "The King and I" right now, and I'm all teary-eyed. No joke.
She was so gifted and genuine. She should have won the Oscar for this performance (with a well-deserved nod to Marni Nixon). I can't picture anyone else being better as Anna on film. Not now, or ever.
Thank you for the work, for sharing your talent with us, and for the joy you gave us... and will continue to give people for many generations to come.
God bless, and peace.
Even Irene Dunne?
I love Irene Dunne, Glebby, but YES... even Miss Dunne.
Deborah is IT for me.
Heaven Knows, Mr Allison........Loved it and Miss Kerr was Brilliant....Won the New York Film Critics Award for Best Actress and was Nominated for an Oscar!!
So many wonderful video tributes have gone up on YouTube.... I can't stop watching them.
I'm just...so sad.
and where the hell is The Chalk Garden?

I had to get my video of The Chalk Garden out this weekend and watch it again. She was soooo good in that movie. Love the chemistry she had with John Mills. Thanks for posting a pic of the movie poster Retro!
