I'd say that this is a place where anything goes.

Law & Order doesn't frighten me about NYC nearly as much as Murder, She Wrote frightened me about Cabot Cove, ME. I mean, a little fishing village in Maine, and their murder rate was one per week!

Know exactly why you are wanting to move to NYC. What is it about NYC that you aren't able to find elsewhere?
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

"I'd say that this is a place where anything goes."
The 1970s called. They want you back.
You can't smoke in bars in NYC. Trans-fat has been barred from restaurants. Nanny Bloomberg makes chain restaurants post calorie information.
NYC used to be a place where anything goes. Not anymore.

Keep it coming, I get there on the 31st!
Some people come into our lives and quietly go, others stay a while, and leave footprints on our heart, and we are never the same.

Gothampc - I'd love to know what real objections you have about the posting of calories at restaurants. Really. Why is it bad to know and be informed about what you're eating.
Do you object to the FDA requiring labels on food in supermarkets too?

Awww, what a shame, Gotharm. I don't think you get around much, because I see everything going here in my experiences.

Because it's brought to you by the same people that ruined NYC. People that are trying to regulate every facet of your life. People that eat at McDonald's are not interested in calorie information. If they were, they would be eating at Whole Foods rather than McDonald's. The calorie information was always available in the past, we don't need Nanny Bloomberg counting our fat intake.

Yeah, we don't have enough fat, smelly, smoky people in NYC.

No one is making the people eating McDonalds NOT eat there anymore, Gothampc.
I don't see how providing information is a bad thing.
How do you feel about schools teaching sex ed?

I eat at McDonald's AND I am interested in calorie counts. Their cheeseburger has fewer calories than their salads.

I know Reg! I guess Gotham doesn't realize you can still eat whatever the heck you want here. It a shame he can't smoke in bars. I'm willing to bet he doesn't smoke and blesses the lord daily that people can't do it in bars. He probably doesn't go into a bar either.

You've missed the point. The information was always available. Many restaurants had it posted on the wall and printed on sheets (Taco Bell passed out sheets you could take with you). It was also available on the internet. It's not that the information wasn't available because it always was.

Ok.. so why is it bad it's now posted ON the menus?
I think you might be able to argue other things NYC has done perhaps better. But providing health information to the public? And your logic/issues don't seem to hold much water for me.

Goth, I'm still missing the point.
If the information was always available--and surely you don't think people shouldn't care about nutrition--then what exactly are you objecting to?

I think he thinks they SHOULD do it if they want to, but objects because now they HAVE to do it.

Reg- it's just one of his many gripes against bloomberg. It's fine to have gripes. But if you're going to raise an issue - it should be an actual issue, no?

Joe
Does he object to them HAVING to separate and recycle trash?
What about all those pesky health codes and adhering to them?

You know what annoys me? Posting signs over exits.
You can find the exits on most buildings' floor plans online. Why do they make them put actual signs--illuminated!--over the actual doorways?

"Ok.. so why is it bad it's now posted ON the menus?"
Let's apply that standard to other things. Since alcohol is completely empty calories, why not post alcohol calories on menus?
Did you ever ask yourself why it's only fast food (chain) restaurants that have to do it? It's because Bloomberg despises the working class that eat at those places. You'll never see calorie content listed on the menus of higher end restaurants.
If the government is so worried about obesity, they can start with getting HFCS out of everything from bread to yogurt to ketchup.

You know what, Goth? I agree with you about corn syrup (and the government's responsibility for it) 100%.
