Wow, who knew that defrauding the public with false alarmism and then selling out to Al Jazeera would make a person richer than Mitt Romney?
Lesson here: it's easier to get richer as a politician going into the private sector rather than the private sector going into politics.

'Al Gore is Richer than Romney'
OK. What's the point? Based on the conservative/Republican deterministic/Darwinian view of the universe, I guess that means that Al Gore is smarter, more deserving and generally more beloved by God than Mitt Romney. While I don't buy into that metric or belief system, I will be pleased to see V.P. Gore embraced by his former critics.
'who knew that defrauding the public with false alarmism...'
Seriously? Seriously??? Polar ice gone, oceans rising and you are STILL so determined to regurgitate whatever Fox News tells you that you are sticking to informed concern over global warning as "false alarmism"? I think that is foolish.
"...and then selling out to Al Jazeera..."
The Xenophobia and naked racism of the Conservative/Republican reaction to this transaction is just so embarassing. People and businesses are NOT evil-doing terrorists just because they have Arab-sounding names. Al Jazeera is based in Quatar--a CRUCIAL American ally. Al Jazeera has consistently been a leader in providing open, un-biased news, bringing an un-biased view of the larger world to it's Arab audience as well as trying to help Americans understand the Arab world and culture.
The independent Index on Censorship lauded Al Jazeera for circumventing censorship and contributing to the free exchange of information in the Arab world.
Al Jazeera--along with the BBC and National Geographic--has been noted for its comittment to fighting censorship.
The notion that Fox News--owned by a foreigner--should be whipping up the mindless drones who consume its rabid fear-mongering into a frenzy over this transaction is just so typical of the hypocrisy, nastiness and just-plain-stupidity of the crap that pours out of the antennas atop Bullsh*t Mountain.
Is the Conservative agenda so devoid of real issues that they feel they must waste their time over CRAP??
It's pathetic.

The whole premise of the original post in this thread **seems** to be--forgive me if I'm misinterpreting it--that Al Gore has been un-masked as a secret Plutocrat and that Progressive voters and thinkers will fall to their knees, weeping--their hearts broken by this rank betrayal.
Many progressive voters and thinkers do not hate money or the people who collect it in enormous quantities. I did not find Mitt Romney ill-suited to lead this country because he was born into wealth, nor did I object to the fact that he collected a bunch more wealth. Frankly, I didn't even object to the steps he took--off-shore accounts etc.--to preserve and protect his wealth. Go for it, Dude. I think dancing horses and private schools and car elevators are fab, if that's what you're into.
It was everything else that he did, believed and espoused that made me queasy. The money was fine.

You do realize the second (or forth, depending on who you ask) biggest investor in Fox is Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, the Saudi Crown Prince.
So, Fox is partially owned by a man who helps run the county that follows Shariah law, and was home to the vast majority of the 9/11 hijackers.
It is also partially owned by a family that routinely violates privacy laws in the UK, and have been accused of a host of other unethical conduct.
I don't have Current, but during the Iran/Egypt crises I found Al Jezera's coverage to be thoughtful, and relatively objective - a quality lacking from much of the US broadcast networks, and clearly non-existent on the various cable opinion shows.
Fox News is Owned by a Man Linked to Terrorists.

Goth--
I imagine that being one of the few voices for the conservative POV in this community can be aggravating, and I regret that the discourse so often descends to a level that is more reminiscent of a grade-school than a graduate-school.
Nevertheless, I am not one of the people who resorts to name-calling and personal slurs. I make a point of establishing that what I say is my opinion and I try always to respect the distinction between beliefs and the people who hold those beliefs.
In my comment above, for example, the word "Pathetic" was used to describe the Conservative agenda, not you. This is not accidental; I don't know you personally, and would not want to insult you simply because our political affiliations are not aligned.
I would appreciate it if you would show me the same courtesy.

Posted: 1/11/13 at 10:08amWhat Goth fails to realize is that no one gives a crap about how rich Romney was. The problem was his plan to slash taxes for the rich while cutting the deficit on the backs of the poor and middle class.

^^Exactly. Which people mis-interpret--either maliciously or accidentally--as animus towards the rich.
The hostility is to hypocrisy, a lack of decency and un-sound economic theory.

"The hostility is to hypocrisy, a lack of decency and un-sound economic theory."
Addision D, since you raise these topics, let's talk about them.
You don't think that Al Gore is a hypocrite? Screaming about global warming and then he jets all over the world, has several houses that eat huge amounts of electricity and has no trouble getting in a limo at Cannes to be driven two blocks.
Let's talk about lack of decency. Obama and the entire Democrat Party accusing Republicans of being rich white men. Yet there are more rich Democrats in Congress than Reputlicans. And I guess now that Mr. Gore is richer than Romney, he has to sign on to the Old White Men Republican Party.
As far as unsound economic theory, when is Obama going to start taking the blame for the economy? It's the worse economy the US has ever had. We're in so much debt and all Obama wants to do is raise the debt ceiling and spend, spend, spend! Plus we have major Democrat leaders saying unemployment is good for the economy. If we had a media that actually did their job, these people would have been shamed for their poor economic policies. Unfortunately all the media does is lie and spin in the Democrat's favor.

Question: are there any POOR elected politicians in either Congress or the House?
How about on a state level? Any successfully elected POOR people in ANY political party?

"Obama and the entire Democrat Party accusing Republicans of being rich white men. Yet there are more rich Democrats in Congress than Reputlicans. And I guess now that Mr. Gore is richer than Romney, he has to sign on to the Old White Men Republican Party."
Al Gore would only have to become a member of the Republican Party if he was out campaigning to give tax breaks to the rich while slashing programs that help the poor.
That's what people object to. Not the money.

Most the people who criticize Al Jazeera have never even watched it.
They don't have to! It has a scary-sounding Ay-Rab name! Like...HUSSEIN! Anything that sounds Ay-Rab (which encompasses most of the Middle East and parts of Eastern Europe depending what the people look like) is TERRORISTIC. Everybody knows that. You don't have to know what something is to determine it is EVIL. You know why they really hate Gore, don't you? Because it has an "Al" in front of it!
