There is no "demand" for these pics- magazines and tabloids buy hundreds of shots of Katie Holmes talking on a cell phone or Kim Kardashian buying yogurt but who would buy a magazine because of it? A lot of Paparazzi are just there to provoke stuff like this. It's ridiculous.

Ever see that horrible TV show based on that gossip website? The photogs say awful awful stuff to provoke reactions. It's sickening.

Addison, I disagree. This thread exists because Baldwin got into a scuffle with the photographer.

There are literally thousands--tens of thousands?--of pap pics published every day, and nobody here starts threads about them.

I don't deny that people like looking at photos of celebrities going about their everyday lives. (I don't particularly, but I don't think it's weird that others do.) But I feel it too often crosses a line into harrassment or stalking. If I saw Alec Baldwin walking down the street, I might well whip out my . . . camera and take a pic. But if I chased him down the street, I'd expect to get my ass kicked. Hell, if it was Marian Seldes, I'd at least expect to get arrested.

I just don't get why no rules seems to apply at all.

Of course, I do agree that generally speaking the appetite for the photos is vast.

But I still don't see why the industry shouldn't have rules and repercussions.

But Reg--we only know about the scuffle because it, in turn, was photographed by another paparazzo, who sold the pics to a gossip site.

I do my best to shun the gossip universe--I have no interest in the personal lives of people I don't know--but even so, I clicked on the link contained in the OP of this thread. I read the article, looked at the photos and commented on them. Repeatedly.

My point is only that the appetite for this dreck is widespread and insidious.

Addison, I agree completely. Just disagree that this thread exists on BWW because it contains the latest papp pics of whomever.

And again, I understand the appetite, even if I don't necessarily share it. But I think the industry's behavior needs to be regulated somehow. (But don't ask me how.)
