Posted: 1/18/05 at 9:59pmNo, I didn't. I went and got me something to drink. I was going to audition last year with two guys that I went to college with but the main reason I didn't was because of that contract. I think if you do not make it, it should be voided.

Posted: 1/18/05 at 10:04pmThen you have great friends. If I had friends that said that I sang well enough to be on American Idol and I went and auditioned and I didn't make it because they said that I had one of the worst voices ever............I wouldn't have any friends anymore, let me tell you!

Posted: 1/18/05 at 10:10pmI personally feel that AI is STAGED... I believe they TELL people what to do and say.. one of my friends auditioned in NYC 2 years ago and said they pulled bad people in on purpose and told them it was for entertainment value. No one in their right mind who wanted to go to a good school for hair/make up and wanted to get hired would do what she did without some payment or script.

CONSTANTINE!
Didn't anyone tell him that since he's no longer playing a dying ex-junkie, he can wash his hair again?

I'm sorry. I know this is mean, but sometimes I just have to laugh at some of these auditions. Some funny highlights:
- The weird looking guy in the purple shirt singing "Tomorrow"
- Toni Braxton's cousin (or so he says)
- Mary Roach (the last girl in the red shirt who was going to change her last name to Giblodeaux or something like that)

It felt more stagey than ever. I was like enough of the sociopaths. We get the point many suck, it's not funny anymore. But then, it was too. ....meh...
One stood out for me (even if he appears to not wash his hair)
If he doesn't screw up...

I swear Constantine sang better than that when I saw him last year...
Anyway, sorry to jump in without contributing to the current conversation. It was rather rude. I agree that it feels staged, I know that Simon doesn't make up his own one-liners. And Mary annoyed me, but the fat girl in the black miniskirt who thought she was classy was far worse.

Posted: 1/18/05 at 10:29pmThey foreshadowed to Mary Roach too much, and I just wasn't impressed at all. In fact, I was bored. I much prefered the bad ones who were genuinly bad and not over-the-top. (The West Nile Virus worker in the green shirt, for one.)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the "classy" girl. She said something along the lines of:
"This just goes to show you that you don't have to be rich to look like this..." and I looked at her outfit and had to laugh at it...ugly!!! Sorry, just my opinion.

Posted: 1/18/05 at 10:33pmShe didn't look rich at all. I thought Ryan picked her up off the corner for fifteen bucks in attempt to turn himself straight.

It is a sad state of affairs on this year's Idol.
In tonight's two wasted hours, I did not see one person who has any business going any further in the contest. The "wedding ring lady" was marginal, at best. Constantine was all over the place.
And, while strangely attractive (at moments), I found it laughable that Mark McGrath was a talent judge.
Here's hoping the best is yet to come, and/or they are holding the footage of the greats to really surprise us later.
