So they asked "In the war against terror, what is the next country we should invade?" and the lady says "Saudi Arabia."

Nothing stupid about that answer. If only our president was that "Stupid."

Oh I know. But this is a country that has a hit game show called "Are you smarter than a fifth grader?" People's stupidity doesn't even phase me anymore.

I'll bet they've got plenty of morons in other countries too. We just don't see their interviews.

It doesn't "faze" you, either, JoeKv99. re: Americans can be so stupid.

I'm sorry, I couldn't help it.

You also have to remember that if anyone was correct it was probably edited out, so that's not completely accurate... I don't think...

Besides, that was mostly filmed in New York, you can't take the answers of one small group and represent the entire country.

Yes, Americans can be very stupid.

Morons in other countries-Well most Scandinavians, Belgians, Dutch, French, Germans, Canadians, Israelis, Japanese, and Australians are intellectually superior to Americans.

Some countries in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Polynesia, and Melanesia have people with lower IQ's than Americans, but that usually is because their country does not have very good education opportunities (i.e. low-quality public schools, few colleges), and that is not the peoples' fault.

The problem with the United States, is that we are, for the most part, physically isolated from other countries. Yes, we border Canada and Mexico, but most Americans do not travel there and do not live near them.

I haven't been to Iran, but I know how to find it on map.

Let's not make excuses for blatant laziness and stupidity.

Ok, maybe those reasons weren't good enough. Americans find it difficult to find a reason to be worldly, ESPECIALLY (and I'm not making a generalization) in the Midwest. I'm not saying that all people from the Midwest U.S. are not cultured and worldly, but more of the non-cultured Americans, probably live in or near the Midwest, because there's nothing but that land there that surrounds them. I live 7 hours away from Canada, and about 28 hours away from Mexico. I have been to Canada several times, and Mexico once (among other trips that include Scandinavia, Belgium, The Netherlands, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, the Iberian peninsula region, Italy, Eastern Europe, The Balkans, Central America, The Caribbean, Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Israel, Turkey, Asia, Morocco, South Africa, and Australia). Most Midwestern Americans, have not ever been outside of the United States, and some have never been outside of their home state. Europeans live very close to other European countries.

Just take a look at the distances from 2 European countries that DON'T BORDER EACH OTHER at their closest point
Denmark-Norway - 5.5 hours
The Netherlands-England - 4 hours
England-Ireland - 5.5 hours
Ireland-Scotland - 6 hours

There are many more. Many of my European friends who live in Europe, have been to over 30 countries in Europe, and one of my friends has actually been to EVERY European country except for Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, everything in the former Soviet Union, any of the micro-states, any of the Channel Islands, and most of former Yugoslavia. Basically, he's been to every MAJOR European country. That's how much they travel in their own continent. Traveling to different European countries, is like traveling to different states in the U.S. I have Danish friends who go to Norway for their long-weekends, and Belgian friends who go to the Netherlands for day-trips. Most Americans do not have this opportunity to visit a place with a whole different culture and language very often. And, while many American BWW'ers are very well-cultured and well-traveled, we do not represent a majority. The schools in the United States do not push for K-12 foreign language education, (while, a high school senior in Switzerland could be working on his or her fourth language). Our history courses normally only include U.S. and occasionally Canadian history. Our society is not embracing of foreign cultures and languages. That is why Europeans (and many other nationalities, too) are intellectually superior to Americans.

.... are you trying to tell me that Russia is not a major country?

Exactly how much have you travelled in Europe and how much time have you spent there?

Within America there are many vastly different cultures, if anyone would care to notice them. Have you ever spent time on a Native American reservation?

"Our society is not embracing of foreign cultures and languages."
How would you characterize New York CIty ?

"ESPECIALLY (and I'm not making a generalization) in the Midwest."

Why is it even necessary to rebut statements such as this?

musicaltheatrefan3, I think that should be Wales-Ireland, not England. Wales is closer. You can see it across the water on a clear day.

Just sayin', is all...

The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Sorry, but it's a complete crock that people in Europe travel more within Europe than Americans do within the US. Many people in the UK, for example, rarely travel out of their own county. True, the people I know in mainland Europe travel a lot, but I know them BECAUSE they travel a lot, many people don't.

Saying that, Europeans do tend to know more about world affairs because the TV news there features more world news than TV in the US does - especially if people here get their TV news from local broadcast stations or Fox News.

Actually, the problem with the United States is that we have many people like musicaltheatrefan3, most of whom (thank God) have not yet learned how to operate a computer. Of course, the damned minority become trolls, socks, and all manner of forum dumbasses.
